Can I use a front derailleur with a maximum chainring of 42T with a 48T chainring?
Hello,
I have a 48T/38T/28T chainring and I can't seems to find any front derailleur with a maximum chainring of 48T. All I can find is 42T chainring max front derailleur. Can I use a front derailluer 42T chainring max with a 48T chainring? Will shifting be poor? I ride a 3x7.

i am a little confused. 30/39/50 and 30/42/50 are very common road triples, and most 3x road front derailleurs can handle that. They would handle what you have as well, you just need the move it down a little.
Are you sure you are looking at road derailleurs and not mountain derailleurs?

It will probably work, just set it a little higher to clear the chainring. I have a box of front derailers that I pull from if needed. I don't know what the specs are on any of them.

I didn’t spend much time, so there are probably others, but a Shimano Altus works with a 48t. I think Microshift does. They are out there and not hard to find.
