Longshot WTB - Berthoud Bag Liner - Did by self!

Plastic bag stiffener/liner for a GB25. Considered having my kid 3D print one, but I think it’s too big for his printer. Trying to avoid $30 for a piece of plastic from all the way in France

Like this: https://berthoudcycles.fr/en/1025-re...2586-2599.html

Alternative, there’s, I think, a Korean company that makes knockoff GB bags (or is that Carradice?). If someone can come up with a name and I’ll search for one that way.

I'd sell you mine but it's from a GB28, not a 25. I suppose you could cut it down if you wanted... I don't even know that it's exactly plastic. The one in my Berthoud bag is something more like a fiberboard. And it's heavy!! Near 200g if I remember correctly. I would either buy the Compass René Herse minimalist stiffener or make one myself, if I had to. You could just get some thick fiberboard or plastic sheet and crease it and cut it appropriately, and then pop-rivet or sew or stick on some velcro.

Yes, or even just some black coroplast.

Yeah, that's the stuff!! Better than original, I reckon. Certainly lighter than the original Berthoud fiberboard, and possibly more durable.

Should be plenty of discarded lawn signs available these days, whatever your persuasion, although those are usually either red, white, or blue...

The Korean company that makes Carradice-style bags is Zimbale.

Here’s another great idea/tutorial for making your own bag stiffener from Starmichael Bowman of the late, great Norther Cycles shop in pdx.

combining that thin metal top strip with the chloroplast form for bottom and sides would be the best solution, I imagine. I hope to do this myself in a few weeks.

best,

Had some time today to fix this one myself. I went to the craft store, ideally to find some plastic sheeting, but couldn’t find any so got some foldable poster board to try. Reinforced the right angles with some old spokes and covered in duct tape for looks and durability. I’m pleased with the results and we’ll see how it holds up.

Duct tape to hold the reinforcing spokes in place

Finished product

No more bag droop around the rack!

Load me up!

Nice work! Did you pretest to see what happens when a banana liquifies in your bag?

No, only 3 day old body fluid soaked bike shorts. It did OK.

I did something similar, but after a year, the alloy stiffener broke due to fatigue. Replaced with thinner stainless steel, still going strong...
