Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Taking the day off from cycling. Yard work. Tomorrow afternoon is my stress test. Would it be unwise to ride in the morning? Is there any kind of prep for a stress test?

I think ok to ride if you take it easy. Usually no prep needed. I imagine they will make you walk/run on a treadmill so bring your sneakers.

The few friends I have all say it is great. Enjoy.

Also a side trip to Prague before or after is very worthwhile.

Prague is beautiful and had not ruined completely by the automobile when I was there in the mid 90s. Relatives of mine (brothers) built the amazing houses which are now the Russian and American ambassadors' residences.

Couldn't agree more
1) never ignore jaw or chest pain
2) never accept delay in diagnostic testing if advice from a GP or non-specialist

If you are concerned enough about pain to undergo a stress test, why do your own stress test by riding your bike? If it's positive, and causes cardiac ischemia, instead of being whisked to life-saving treatment, you'll be in bad shape.
Sorry to come off as snarky, but it could be (hopefully not) a life-threatening issue.
Good luck!

I rarely order a muscle biopsy, usually if I suspect dermatomyositis or inclusion body myositis or polymyositis. I am sure there are other reasons to order one but I can't think of them.

Usually an EMG is a better test for muscle problems/issues since it's a FUNCTIONAL test.

Stress test tomorrow afternoon; the final test, after blood and EKG.
Anecdotally, my b-i-l, a runner all his life, until his feet gave out, switched to cycling, can ride rings around me, is a retired RN. He passed his stress test and had a heart attack anyway.

Sorry to hear. Can definitely happen, as stress tests are not infallible.

Because at the start of this whole adventure, I didn't know that I was experiencing ischemia. I had pain in my jaw, only, while doing intervals. I had no idea it was heart related. No chest pain; only the jaw issue.

Understand. No criticism intended. I was directing my thoughts vs the comment of riding "easy"

You missed my ironicalness, you horrible person!

Yes, only for suspected

1. Dystrophy
2. Metabolic myopathy
3. Immune myositis with non-diagnostic CPK
4. I'm probably forgetting a few things
5. Grant-funded geekiness

all of which are rare.

EMG is actually not particularly helpful for muscle disorders and, if the picture is myopathic, will usually lead to biopsy, anyway.

I'll tell you more when we get off the elevator.
