Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

okay, so it’s not that bad here. My neighbor dropped a couple of trees into the association owned woods behind our houses today, no ropes, no anything, he’s lucky he didn’t take out anyone’s storage shed

It's the crowds over at Cañada Road on Sundays that bothers me. Everyone on the Peninsula who owns a bicycle seems to be there, all at the same time.

The first problem sounded like a standard bearing failure: a sort of grinding, whining, roar. The second was a rattle, as though the spinning load had become unbalanced. Both were intolerable. Apparently, the DD units aren’t immune from these problems and have additional issues, due to their greater complexity.

As I wrote above, however, replacements were fast and free.

Oh, indeed. That sounds like a place to avoid. I ride around on suburban arteries where I’ll get whipped into the ditch by a landscaping trailer before I breathe any Cov-2.

Gotta love those. In the summer, riding out towards the local lake we get wakeboarder trailers - so fun!

Should be the last one for a couple months, I hope. From what I understand, they’re given in a 3 injection series and this will be my 6th, last one in the second series.

Who drives better? In fairness to the landscaping guys, they are usually pretty careful.

I was sitting in the cockpit the other day at Regan National, and I was facing some bridge that over looked the excluded area that we park at. I have never seen so many people on bikes in one place, and they were not riding as a group. 100 cyclist could have easily gone by in the 45 mins that I sat there.

And therein lies the problem.

Cañada Road is just about the ONE way to get from the Northern/Mid Peninsula to the Southern Peninsula where the best roads are. Other routes are TERRIBLE, with no bikelanes, a gazillion stop signs, and impatient drivers and THEN you get to do an unpleasantly long climb to get to the same place.

It's 8 miles with only 2 stop signs and no real cross streets, and not even any driveways for the first 6 miles. Flat to rolling, wide as hell with bike lanes you can ride two-up in. It runs through Water Department land, so there's a lake on one side and grassland/chaparral on the other. This pic is the view from the North end, taken just as I got back to the car after one of my last postwork rides before Daylight Savings Time ended.

I love the surprise trailers. A truck is passing and you start to relax and--SURPRISE!--there's a trailer three feet away from you.

Well, we have boats. But the routes I most often ride don't go near enough where they congregate for them to be a huge issue. Not as common as other kinds of trailers.

You're right. BUT the dates are also different. The one that doesn't spell out that cycling for exercise is exempt is dated 4:30 PM December 2, 2020. The one that I linked to, that specifically exempts outdoor exercise including cycling is dated 11:30 PM December 2, 2020. The later order is also 2 pages longer, so my assumption is that the later order clarifies and supercedes the earlier one.

If I had to guess, I'd guess somebody said, "Hey, what about this?" and the Mayor's office said, "Oops!"

In Tucson you can't stay out after 10pm.

Doubt that'll happen in PHX.
