Road bike stem needed
Anyone know where to find a 12 degree stem? Got a 12 degree stem now, and that gives me a stem that is parallel to the ground. I need one that is about 100mm long. It has been a few years since I build my road bike, and the 110mm stem is just too long and not comfortable anymore.
Here's what i've found so far:
Specialized s-works SL stem $125
Zipp SL sprint carbon $265
Looking for a stem around 100g, and suggestions would be appreciated. These prices are pretty high to me too.

If you can handle a -17, a Kalloy Uno stem runs about 25 bucks and weighs around 110 grams. I spent an extra 12 bucks or so on titanium bolts ang got mine sub 100. I had one on my climbing bike. Very nice for the price and weight.

- you don't need to spend this much money on a good stem.
-saving grams of weight will not do anything. You can shave your pubes to account for something if you really wanted to.

I always thought that -17 degree stems are parallel to the ground. I have several bikes with -17 degree stems.
(Maybe I need to measure it...visually they look parallel)

Head tube angle changes a lot on some bike models as you go from the smaller sizes to the larger sizes. Also the specific genre of road bike (or any bike) and the trends of the time period it was manufactured give differing head tube angles.

A -12 stem gives you a level stem? So your HTA is 78 degrees?
This costs $50 across the internet. 12deg and 100mm

You do need a -17 stem to be parallel to the ground. A -12 would raise the bars by 8-9mm. I've got a -17 x 100mm zipp SL on eBay for $65 delivered, like new.

A -17 degree stem will be parallel to the ground if the bike's headtube angle is 73 degrees. (17 + 73 = 90)

Not trying to give you a hard time, but its a matter of simple math, 90-HT angle = stem to get horizontal. Perhaps the lower portion of your stem is angled from the actual centerline of the stem which makes it look likes not level.

Regardless, good luck on the search. If you get a 17 degree stem and just set it higher with a couple millimeter spacers, itll be the same effective height as you have now, and you will have access to more stem options.

A couple years ago, I built up a bike and used a high-end Zipp stem (100mm) which came with ti bolts. I think the claimed weight was 125 grams.

After seeing the big spacer stack, I'd get a -6 and get rid of 10mm of spacer.
