Hello,

I am a newbie (in fact, I do not know how to ride a bike (all attempts at learning have failed ) and I am looking at buying a tricycle, since I feel it would give me more stability on the road than a bike.

I am contemplating buying a folding trike, and have been looking at the "Fold and Go Three Speed Trike" from True Bicycles:

I haven't found any reviews on it yet. Has anyone had any experience with the "Fold and Go Three Speed Trike" from True Bicycles?

Any input would be much appreciated.

I am not familiar with this model, but have you considered a folding tadpole recumbent?

Thanks for your reply, Pinigis. I have looked at recumbents and have even tried a couple, but I felt vulnerable in them, so I am keen on getting an upright trike. What would be the best folding trike out there?

Diblasi looks a lot better to me. Best folding trike afaik for folding and size folded

Does not fold much apparently , Only see one main tube hinge.. and the big Made in China sticker..

I wouldn't expect much Other than the hinge point, over the non folding Trikes ..

One of the 2 back wheels are driven, like most upright 3 wheelers.

Indeed, bhkyte, Diblasi looks much better and I have been salivating after it as it seems to be so well made and the folding mechanism is well thought-out, but there are no dealers where I live... Ordering it directly from Italy is prohibitively expensive -- after shipping fees and import taxes, it comes to a whopping $5000 CAN, which is way more than I am willing to pay.

Thanks for your reply, fietsbob. Given that I need to fit it inside a Volkswagen Golf, any bit of foldability counts. However, after speaking with True Bicycles and wanting to order the Fold and Go, I was disappointed beyond measure with the quality of their customer care. So my search for a multi-speed foldable 20" trike continues. Are there any that you could please recommend? Thanks a lot.

I have considered the Worksman Port-O-Trike PT3CB (pt3cb) which folds, but am am discouraged by the many poor reviews it has on Amazon...

It's a very good suggestion, but somehow I like the eccentric appeal of a trike more than a stabilizer...

Oh, I didn't know about the bad reviews. But if you read through them the bike ISN'T reviewed badly. It's actually got some pretty good reviews.

You need to read those reviews... I am selling on Amazon and believe me ..some people should go to bike shop and buy it there instead.
People returning bikes because they are unable to adjust the seatclamp and their saddle slips down ... same people weigh 350 lbs ..oops
some others get a speed Uno with blue anodized seatpost clamp and handlebar clamp instead of black ones. Instead of changing them around as they were offered replacement they send the used bike back ...

Meaning ... some of those bad reviews are surely just because they don't know how to hold s screwdriver.

Not that I am endorsing that trike... Keep in mind that all of these are very small quantities, which makes them expensive, freight is a killer and if somebody asks anything less than 125 dlr for freight , its calculated into the selling price instead .
Yo can check Trailmate out of Florida or maybe Emory Manufacturing from Jacksonville, both are nicer than the Worksman offerings but maybe not foldable and more expensive as well

I understand your trepidation about a two-wheel bike, since learning to ride one, as an adult, is intimidating.

But if your logic is that a three wheel conveyance is safer, I encourage you to think again. A two-wheeler is much safer. The maximum cornering speed of a tricycle is shockingly low. Their size also prohibits them from riding a lot of places where a bicycle is safe.

I would suggest you learn to ride a bicycle. It is not that difficult. Start with a scooter, something you can stand on and step off of as soon your confidence wanes. All you need to do is learn how steering keeps you upright. Once you get that, everything else falls into place.

I had a three wheeler for delivering parcels as a self employed delivery man for a few months. I felt I need to be a good cyclist to handle the bike and to know when it felt likely to tip. Sceret was to jump of the pedals if it felt like tipping and let it correct itself. Hard work due to weight. I slept well during that job and had muscles like a northern fish and chip shop.

I agree to learn on a 2 wheel folder....
get a wide comfort saddle .. leave it low so u can easily get your feet to the ground....
than just sit on it.. push with both feet and roll a little .. do it over and over before u even use the pedals ...
than use pedals and go very slow ( which is almost mre difficult than going fast )
after u feel good raise the saddle
after you feel really good get rid of that big saddle and use a regular one

You might consider the services of a bike coach for private lessons in learning to ride. There may also be classes for adult beginners offered by outdoor stores or bike advocacy organizations in your area. An advocacy organization may also be able to refer you to a bike coach. A good teacher can make a huge difference!

Folding bikes are great if you feel a little unstable or have trouble getting a leg over a regular frame, too. The low top tube and extensively adjustable saddle height can help you build up confidence and skill while you're learning.
