MKS GR-9's, huh?
Howdy.
I'm looking at the MKS GR-9's for my fixie project, because I like the soft-sole business, but I do want double straps.
My quandary, then, for you all to resolve, relates to the double-strappability of these pedals. A fellah who I work with says that double straps and GR-9's don't work, but I don't believe him, though am yet unwilling to buy away, potentially to my own ruin. Any personal experiences? More specifically, do they have two sets of slots to accomodate? Thankee much.

The Soma clips sound like a good option. I'll probably end up getting their straps, too, unless I can find a cheaper pair that's laminated.
Really, there's no reason it shouldn't work well. I just wanted to put myself at ease.
Edit: Oops, check this out.
"haha those gr-9s are actually really really comfortable, i would have them on my bike right now were it not for their inability to incorporate double straps- i get paranoid about strap breakage and like the feel of strap security, both physically and structurally; but hey, if you're not worried about that sort of thing, then definitely get the gr-9s"
Ripped from the archives. Eff it. Maybe I'll be a bastard and just get Sylvans. Will my feet cozy up to them, or am I going to wear through my treasured sneaks?

Make or otherwise acquire one of those leather strap couplers/holders (no idea of the real name but I know a few people on this forum make them) and you should be good to go.
Like I said, I can't come up with that picture at the moment but it was around here somewhere. Double straps with GR-9s are possible if you don't mind taking the time to make them work.

Good to hear, all of it. Doubles really aren't overrated, though. I wouldn't ride fixed with just one pair of straps.

I ride doubles for a comfort thing not so much safety or security as you can acheive those with a quality single strap
my rx-1s however wont work with doubles but I plan to use em

One way to do it is to replace the stock bolts that hold on the clips with really long ones that go almost all the way to the spindle, then you have something for the strap to be under rather than it just flopping around.

Dimension/Wellgo track pedals are <$20 and have slots for two straps without the protruding dust caps that Sylvan track pedals have. They are pretty narrow though - almost too narrow for my bigass feet but I wanted plenty of cornering clearance.

I ride Toshi doubles on gr-9's w/ no problem at all. I did replace the bolts w/ longer ones to better hold the second strap, but otherwise, they work fine.

That sounds like a wondrously enticing option. Is finding the longer bolts too difficult? If not, they might be the money.

Exactly. Take an existing bolt in with you, they usually have little gauges over in the loose hardware section and you can find out exactly what size it is. Be sure to get the right threading as well as diameter, most places have thread gauges but you can also just lay the bolts against each other and tell instantly if they are the same threading.

in my experience, double straps did not work with gr9 to the full capability. they will work but if your set on doubles i suggest sylvans but since your going with soft soles i would point out the kashimax single straps. they are priced like a set of doubles but they are amazing! Also, Soma double straps are nothing but fashion, they dont hold your feet in at all.

if you have a good LBS they may get them for you sans shipping or even at a discount if they like you...

How wide are the GR-9s? I'm running Sylvans right now, but they are too narrow for my feet; I overhang by about an inch. Which is fine for short, around-the-neighborhood rides, but anything longer starts to build up hotspots right where the pedal ends. Are the GR-9s wider than the Sylvans?
