Jerseys? I'm just trying to figure out which one to wear. I may bring a few of my old Raleigh jerseys so I have options, and then maybe we can do a "show and tell" after the ride.

With 15 hours to go before the ride, I am relatively good in declaring the weather will be lovely.

Hope to see you out there.

Wonderful ride today. Large turnout of great riders on cool bikes.

Thank you to IAB for once again hosting this event. BTW, you did a much better job with the weather today than last year!

Lotta great bikes there, thx @Steve Whitlatch for the pics. So, "flat as a pancake," what did @iab ride? I didn't catch any ancient single speeds with wooden wheels in those pics...

NEATO PICS^^^

Thanks again, iab! Always a great time and excellent selection of route.

A terrific day; beautiful riding weather and great group of riders. Invited three other newbies to the ride and whom all had a great time. Arrived to the meeting / start and had a bit of party favors- parts swap. (Thanks again for the pedals, Skip!).

Always a treat to be rolling with such diverse mix of vintage bikes and better yet, I don't believe there were any mishaps. Of course, +1 to the fish taco's too! For such a small eatery, we lucked out for crashing them inside with this group. I recall the one year we sat outside.

Ride report - tandem team
I decided on riding the 1980 Santana. A bit hesitant but at the same time elated having a newbie stoker, Peter and whom rode impressively as if he's done thousands of miles on a tandem! Only the day before and few miles of orientation did he first try it. Unless you've had or have a tandem, its difficult to describe but there's a procedure, smoothness and large amount of cooperation needed. Otherwise it could be a rough day. Not only that, he was on a short Brooks and first with toe clips. It was really cool to have Peter brave it out. Truly a fantastic time.

This particular tandem has a monstrous range of ratios and even with the added weight, mild headwind and a few inclines we basically loped along in the big ring and the higher gears for the entire ride. No chain throws, the old Suntour GT-V Luxe kerchunk's without flaw.

Lastly, I'm running low on supply and on the last of quality and vintage 27" tires. Its either use them or lose them and for the tandem, I cannot run new Pasella's. I've tried a few different version of Pasella's and its always a sidewall or longevity issue. I do have some early Avocet but last decided to mount old 27 x 1 1/8" Matrix ISO Tech 3k (remember them?). The day before and trial with Peter on the bus, we tweaked the tire pressures and decided 100 psi both front and rear. Just in case of sidewall rip I carried in my hydration pack a tire liner. They weren't needed and these old tires work very well and ride quite nice. Most important, they look correct and in NO WAY is this baby getting all black tires- lol.

If there's any masochist riders whom have their life insurance paid up, lets talk vintage tandems for the Dairyland Dare!
Cheer's all ~

Assuming that's 10 or 11 speed gears in the back, how well does the narrow chain get along with old cottered chainset? Nice bike.

It's a ten. What you don't see is all the grinding and filing done on the backside of the chainring to fit a 10-speed chain.

Flat as a pancake? Maybe lumpy pancakes made by 5 year old`s. There are a lot of slow rollers and long inclines. Not mountain climbing but a pretty good workout.

iab`s pink Italian bike is a true eye catcher, very unique. I liked it a lot. The other cool paint color that really stood out was Steve`s International. The pictures do not capture the depth and glow of the paint. Two beautiful bikes that really stood out in my opinion. All of the bikes were beautiful though.

Most definitely.

Back to iab's ride for a moment. Its so ridiculous cooool! It can mess with any avid cyclist thinking. The shift group and crank mentioned but look at that brake set-up and also the pink Speedplay's. Dugast rubber........... this machine just makes anyone ponder and smile.
