The only eyebrow raising issue (which isn't an issue to me since this isn't a fake) is:
Decals and headbadge:
Replica decals from Cyclomondo except original Columbus decal.
The bike was found without Gios decals.

Yes, no doubt it is a Gios. I also wonder if the Columbus decal is incorrect for the era. I've looked at photos of a '74 and '75 from the L'Eroica archive as well as the '77 catalogue, and they appear to have the earlier gold decal, like so:

They're good bikes! They're durable and reliable. The Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub is great. The upright position makes casual slow riding easy and fun.

Try one to see what the buzz is all about.

I admit, I'm curious, the chrome fork & stays w/bar-end shifters. But this falls on the poor side of payday, and just out of range for where I'm at today. Good thing it's not in my size or I'd have to make it work somehow. crap... i'm tempted just for the shifters.... Also saw a nice Traveler on the GR craigslist, but I already got one you see.

1993 Bridgestone XO-4, 55 cm - $350 (Arlington Heights)

Date: 2010-05-07, 9:13AM EDT
Reply to: sale-mzky4-1728785481@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

1993 Bridgestone XO-4, 55 cm TIG-welded chromoly frame, handlebar, Shimano Deore DX thumb shifters (these have their own cult following), 21 speeds, cantilever brakes. This bike is equally at home in the dirt or on the road, or anywhere in between.

Although the XO-4 was offered after 1993, the later models are not as distinctively designed and lack some of the key features (like the moustache handlebars). Designed by bike legend Grant Peterson.

This bike has been used--and maintained--regularly. It's not "showroom new" but it is in great shape overall.

- 26" x 1.75" Continental Contact tires, in near-new condition.
- your choice of MKS Touring/Cyclocross pedals w/toe clips, or a pair of Shimano PD-M535 pedals
- new, Brooks-style "leatherine" knock-off saddle (not in pictures; ask about other saddle options)

Please include your phone number (and best time to reach you) in your email. If this ad is showing on CL, the bike is still available. Cash only, first come, first served.

54cm Trek 400. Lightweight lugged steel frame in good condition. Suntour Blaze 14 speed drivetrain and brakes. Matrix Titan II rear wheel and Matrix Titan S front wheel. Wheels are true. Bike rides very smooth. Has a Blackburn rear rack on it, with additional rear frame braze-ons under the seat for a fender. Comes with one bottle cage and has braze-ons for another. Bike is a great tourer or commuter. New bar tape, recently tuned, ride off into the sunset.

It was. The 400 was a mid level all arounder/sports bike, neither designed specifically for racing nor touring.

Pretty good bike, tho.
