Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

i don't mind. If you wait a year they usually work out all the bugs and lower the price, so i'll just stick w/my 500 till then. Really isn't anything for ME worth upgrading to the 510 anyway, so i might just wait till it breaks.

I lost one of those spiffy camelbak podium bottles with those cages the first time I used them. Now it's on a really hairy descent that I've lost a water bottle on before, but just letting you know.

That sucks. I was going to buy a 510 but I'll just use the powertap computer.

I bought the 810 so that my wife would be able to locate me in case of an emergency.

How does that work? Does it bluetooth the GPS data to your phone, and then it updates someplace in the cloud where your wife can locate you or something?

Does it work better than the "locate my phone" feature the Iphone/cloud has?

I was having the same issue with my 500. I have the 2013 Sram Red Quarq. Quarq ended up doing a software update and it fixed the issue. So you might want to look towards them and not just Garmin with the issue.

Connects with phone, when the ride starts it sends an e-mail to people that you wish to be able to follow you. They can follow you live via Garmin's site during the ride.

I tested it by using the Quarq with both the 810 and my 500 during the same ride. The 500 still works perfect. Many others on the Garmin site have done the same thing. It is doing the same thing with powertaps. I appreciate the suggestion though.

That sounds pretty useful. How is impact on your phone's battery?

^ok. Mine did it with both my 705 and 500 (I'm a generation behind you---LOL). Good luck fixing the issue, I know how much of a PITA that was to deal with. I hope Garmin is as good to you as Quarq was to me.

I'm seeing the dropouts on my PowerTap, but not nearly with the frequency that some others are seeing them.

I hope the location data is being pulled from the Garmin thru the satellite using Garmin resources, and not hogging your phone's cell data for the entire ride.

Not too bad on a three hour ride. Haven't ridden longer than that with it yet.

I get 4gb of data a month, use my data all the time while I am at work including Pandora. I don't even switch to wifi when I get home, just stay on 4g. I still don't go over 2 gb a month including last month when I used the 810 on about 5 or 6 rides.

Yeah, but the 17 grams weight saved means I'll be going up hills at least 0.000001 mph faster!

From the Garmin 510/810 page -

This setup saves your phone battery because Edge tracks the data and sends it to your phone using a Bluetooth® connection

Got these in the mail today. Just warming up the oven now so they can be molded.

Not the prettiest shoes in the market, but I'm hoping they're going to fix some of my foot problems and be a lot more comfortable than my old beat up sidis.
