First century ride
Well, I did my first century ride! It's been in my bucket list for a few years now. I started riding about 12 years ago when my knee got too bad to walk my 3 miles a day. Due to some circumstances, I haven't ridden in two years. I turned 60 in April and decided that I wasn't getting any younger so I jumped back on the bike and started working. I rode in this year's Hotter-n-Hell Hundred. It was awesome. I stopped at rest stops at 30, 50, 70, 80 and 93 miles. My total was 101 miles, I averaged 17.0mph and I was on the bike a little under 6 hours.
It was a blast and I'm so glad I did it but I don't really have any big desire to do it again. I guess I would if someone else was trying for the first time and needed a partner for support. Otherwise, I just enjoy my daily 18-22 miles and 50-70 miles on Saturday. I will definitely try and do the HHH100 every year I can. Only 11,000 riders this year - probably partly because of Hurricane Harvey - but, man, what energy at the start and most of the way through the ride. I'll just do the 100k next year because it goes through the Air Force base and people say that section is priceless.
Guess you can tell that I'm still pumped up about it. Ride safe, my friends.

Hotter N Hell is a fun ride, very well organized and plenty of food and water at the checkpoints. I rode it in 2010 and it was the final ride on a bucket list I made in the mid 70's!
They get a huge turn-out but we always felt safe on the road

Congrats and Well Done! HHH100 was being talked up when I was in Granbury for BS75. Couldn't afford two trips to Texas this year, but certainly one on my list for the future.

Awesome and congratulations! I just completed my first century this past Sunday as well. I was definitely slower than you, but then again I was riding in a different location with different conditions so the two may not be comparable. Still, I can't imagine doing that distance at 17 mph average speed, very well done on your part!
My ride wasn't a big organized event, but was a small group effort to complete a century. There were seven of us at the start, but one dropped out so six completed the ride which wound up being a bit longer (176 km or 109 miles).
It was great, but I really was done by the end of it. Like you, I don't feel much like doing this again any time soon!

I'm 55 and just started cycling Spring 2016. HHH 2017 was my first century ride as well. I did a few 80 milers earlier in the year, and so far have ridden 4300 miles this year alone. I completed the century with a 19 mph average, thanks to a LOT of drafting 
. Total time on the route, including rest stops, was 5:55. I'm on pace for 5000 miles this year and can't wait til HHH 2018!

Rode that too.
I rode the Blazing Saddle 75 too. It was a good workout to prepare for the HHH100. In fact, I found it to be more challenging - thanks to the hills - than the HHH100 which is pretty flat. The HHH100 is a great event though. Get there early so you can witness the pro races. Very impressive.
