Noteworthy Ride

Not for its distance, elevation gain, speed, route, or scenery.

As of this ride, we logged 30,000 miles on Ol' Fuj, my 2006 Fuji Newest 3.0 that we bought for a discount in early 2007. Ol' Fuj has done yeoman duty: our first century (with Terrierman) which included super-cell T-storms, several more centuries, some mountain climbing, a couple thousand miles of night rides, one ride at 13 deg. F, and a few at just north of 100 deg. F, rain rides, rides with frozen precipitation, fording streams.

We have experienced a lot together and made a lot of friends together. We've seen some outstanding scenery and made many good memories together and created a lot of smiles together.

Ol' Fuj wears his original Sora 3 x 8 drive train, which despite the "expertise" on the Road Forum, shifts reliably and only needs tweaking when shift cables are changed. Other than normal wear parts, we've not had any issues. We did remove the original interrupter brake levers, so that both bikes (Fuj & Cannondale) would have the same brake configuration.

At the time we got Ol' Fuj, we were riding a Specialized Hardrock, mostly on the road. A few forays into the woods brought me to the realization that, for me, the road was more enjoyable than trails, woods, rocks, roots, mud, bugs etc.

As we figure that Ol' Fuj is a keeper and part of the family, we'll wait and see what the next 30,000 brings

Yeah, i guess you have enough time on the bike by now to decide if it is worth keeping. Wouldn't want to rush to judgment.

I have to ask ... do you share the bike or speak with the Royal "We"?

BobbyG, the motor is 68 years of age. It has lost a little compression over the years and could probably use new points and condenser

Maelochs, we speak with the Royal "We". The bike has been shared for a few trips, but those miles were not counted for the 30 grand. Counting the rides for which it has been shared, the actual miles are a little over 30,000.

At least it's not leaking fluid. And as long as it still passes emissions....
