Cataract Surgery coming up!
This next Friday I am scheduled for the first eye to be done and the second in a few weeks after that. Looking forward to what everything I have heard about clearer vision and more vibrant colors.

Had it a few years ago. After the first eye is done , the difference is surprising. With one eye (the operated eye) everything is clear. whites are white and other colors bright; with the other eye, everything looks dirty. I stopped driving before the operation , and I couldn't drive at night.

Even though it has been well over a year since my cataract surgeries were completed, I'm still amazed at the vibrancy of colors as well as the crispness of everything. I only need reading glasses for working on the computer. Previously I had worn glasses/contacts since 6th grade.

I’d love to join that group but my ophthalmologist says I’m not quite there. I’ve noticed some differences in night vision but overall vision seems great so no real complaints right now.
It would really nice not to have to wear corrective eyewear for cycling, particularly not using contact lens. There are times when I don’t wear sunglasses like darkness and rain. It’s amazing how quickly debris can get in the eyes with the contact lens and create irrigation to the point of eyes tearing and greatly reduced visibility. Putting my hard contact lens in my eyes in a tent on a tour when the morning temperatures are in the 30s is not fun neither. I really look forward to the day all that’s in the past.
Does anyone know how much of the procedure is covered by Medicare???

Since I am 63 Medicare is no an option. And since we have a high deductible most of the cost for both eyes will be out of pocket.

Is it that urgent? As I recall there is a rating for cataracts from 10 down to1, or is the other way, well anyway it was supposed to be 5 before they operated. But this was a few years ago. Medicare and supplemental covered most of it.

Mine were done about 5 years ago on Medicare. My vision is about the same as in my twenties except for reading which still requires glasses. I had reached a point where I wouldn't drive at night due to poor vision.

You will enjoy the difference that the operation makes. In my case my vision had been awful since I was a child with my good eye being about 20/400. The new lenses cured that as well. Start shopping for your riding glasses now.

I was the getaway driver for my brother's two recent cataract surgeries. Went well - no problems. Not sure that I will need it but perhaps eventually. I'm having annual vision exam today so can ask the optometrist how things are looking (ha, ha) in there.

Five years ago he told me I might be getting close to benefiting, but three years later he I could continue to hold off, since mine were now progressing so slowly.

Update: Optometrist told me probably no need for at least 5-6 years. Couldn't predict which eye, either.

First surgery was yesterday. Wow is all I can say!
When for the first follow up today and the doc was very pleased and scheduled #2 for the 26th..
Took a shower today and thought I had forgotten to take my glasses off!

For map/phone/flat changing, I carry a pair of readers. I hook them over the back of the neck line of my jersey so that they are out of the way during the ride.
