Crossed one off the bucket list last week
Spent three days riding around Door County, Wisconsin. We drove thru it in one day, two years ago, and decided we wanted to come back and ride, and finally got to do it. Did Washington Island too. Highly recommended.

I went to a wedding near Appleton WI this summer. The roads that I could see from the interstate looked very inviting. The hills were stepped, curvy and inviting with wide berms. Hope to get a few days riding there once I retire.

YES! Our first night, in Sturgeon Bay, we stayed at the Holiday Music Motel, on a recommendation from a friend. Retro/Nostalgic place, music themed because- Jackson Browne is one of the owners. There's a 40 seat studio upstairs, and he does shows there a couple times a year (no, we didn't...). Not modern by any means, but we will stay there again- it's that cool.
Also stayed at Gordon's Lodge in Bailey's Harbor, was expecting Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze to come dancing out from the trees at any minute- absolutely gorgeous place.
Other two nights were at a nondescript run of the mill place in Fish Creek, apple something or other. Could've done better there...

If you like camping, there are several state parks: Potawotami, Peninsula, Newport Beach. Peninsula is very popular and you'll likely need reservations between memorial Day and Labor Day; some sites are kept open as "first-come, first-serve) but they fill quickly. IIRC, there are some walk/ride-in sites that are usually available. Newport Beach is all walk-in sites and quite nice.
If you prefer real beds and a solid roof, there are an abundance of motels, cottages, B&Bs, vacation rentals, etc.

The area south and east of Appleton is where I do most of my riding; east of Lake Winnebago is particularly nice, on top of the escarpment.

Did SAGBRAW (Bike Wisconsin) a couple of years ago and one of the stops was in Sturgeon Bay for two nights. Unfortunately our ride day there turned into a rainout. However we did stay in the Holiday Music Hotel and they held a show in the parking lot for the tour riders. Cool place to stay. Really wish we could have done the loop ride in Door County. I absolutely loved the riding in that part of Wisconsin. Wide farm roads with rolling terrain and quite often a view of the lake.
Glad you had a good time there.

I have some old cycling friends (a married couple) who spend at least a week riding around Door County each year.
