Repair of Paint Chips.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Repair of Paint Chips.

I have an old bike with a recently (8 years ago) clear coated paint job by cycleart. I have chips as seen in the down tube and a few in the orange sections. I have repeatedly tried to contact cycleart for touch ups with no success. Any ideas on hoew best to repain these dings?

See if cycleart will tell you the PPG code. That's the paint industry standard for color. Then you can order paint online yourself. If you aren't sucessful, go to an autobody shop. They have books with paint samples and you match your bike to it

Some people here use model paint but you won't get an exact match

Part of the problem is cycleart not responding to multiple contact attempts. Makes me wonder if they are still in business.

I think the best answer is to consult a woman in your life who wears nail polish (assuming you're male and/or don't wear nail polish) and have them take care of it for you.

I once wheeled my bike into the nail polish isle of a department store, just to look for a good match.
It's so close you can't tell unless you're looking really hard.

Small vials of auto touch up paint from an auto parts store are your best bet. Wide color selection and more durable than nail polish. They don't mind if you bring your bike in, but for the best match take the close colors outside i to the sunlight.

Model car paint aka oil based enamel, seems to be quite strong but it takes a hwile to cure.

i've used nail polish and model paint. both seem to do the trick nicely. i use electric tape to tape off the area to be painted over and just wipe a thin layer and then again and again. better than a big blob of paint. if it becomes unsightly, i file it down a bit.
