Replace Fork at 5 Years?? Really???

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have several older bikes with 1" threaded carbon-leg forks. I suppose I should be as concerned as anyone. 1" carbon forks are getting hard to find. But I'm not. If I had ever crashed with a fork, then I would have replaced it pronto, and put the old fork in my bench vice to saw off the legs. I am consistently amazed at the volume of fake, damaged and recalled product that finds its way into the bike parts supply chain.

5 year carbon fork replacment cycle? Your choice. If you do decide to adhere to this, make it mandatory that you get your old fork back, and then take a hacksaw to it. This would be the only ethical thing to do. Do not leave the old fork with 'the shop' for 'appropriate disposal'.

to the point, I inspected my fork yesterday and I found wear grooves behind the brake pads; presumably, grit sprayed off the pads effectively ground grooves into the fork blades.
I thought it was weird. The grooves are shallow. At what point do I get concerned?
I wasn't intil Datlas piped up...

Carbon Fiber forks will eventually fail. This is a fact. Haven't you watched the TV show Life After People. Within about 200 years, most forks will fail. Since this fact is now established, lets move on to the next subject. Nothing else to see here.

We're introducing the idea of a Forum Steward, for one thing. Think Moderator Light. They will help steer and develop topics and hopefully defuse conflicts before sanctions wind up going out.
