Recent changed the stem from a 120 to a 130. I got this Nitto/Specialized stem in 1994. It was on a $5 franken bike I got at a police auction. It's been on at least 5 other bikes prior to this.

thought I'd pull up yours for a color comparison. Which is almost never accurate 'taken in the wild' shots.

Only 10.5 miles, (getting hot already) to exchange books at the little sidewalk library on White Oak in Northridge, CA. Rode the '78 Super Course, nice ride, hot or not. Dropped off 3 books, brought home 2.

Little red box is the little sidewalk library.

Saw some pretty flowers along the way.

My $20 CL find. Fun bike.

More from My Morning Commute

I can't believe how nice it has been this week. I rode, Every. Single. Day. Leaving early allows me to explore and find new angles to photograph, and I arrive at work invigorated. Here are a couple new shots of the Saint Paul Riverfront:

Lots of great ride pics going up here!

I managed to get in 32.36 miles on the Masi this morning. Raced home because I had lots to do and also because they were predicting rain (which has not eventuated yet).

Quick 23 miles with a bud...

Thanks. Where was your ride and what do you use to track the distance? I usually track mine with either a "computer" on the bike or by my fipbit reading GPS on my smarffone.

@DQRider you always have such amazing pictures.

Today I took a 50 mile tour of some local forest preserves. I'm always looking for some nice places to go camping, and I ended up finding a little spot that looks absolutely wonderful.

I used to ride around the south side of Rockford a lot before my last move. One of my favourite places was the Buddhist temple that is just south of a forest preserve.

What a beautiful day on a bike.

Rode down to Stan Sayres Memorial Park to watch the Seattle Seafair hydroplane races. Haven't seen them on Lake Washington since I was a kid. They even had some vintage boats out, too. Got in free of charge with my retired military ID, and I even found a $10 bill on the way out at the conclusion of the event. A nice day out!

Sunday August 4th Iron Horse Trail

28.5 miles on the Iron Horse Trail between Walnut Creek and San Ramon, CA. No bragging rights for mileage but it's the most miles I've put on in a long time plus plus the weather was ~90°.

Heading south with a tail wind, I was in the highest gears. The headwind coming back was a killer for the first 6-7 miles.

We've had cloudless skies for the past week so perfect riding weather.

I had my 1988 Bianchi Giro out for the last several days. It's been a garage queen for 5-6 years. I bought it in 2007 and it was my first Bianchi, I didn't know what I had until I did some research - mid range model.

The bike was like new and couldn't have had more than 50 miles on it. It has a last generation 1988 Campy Victory gruppo.

2007 eBay picture:

After I set it up for myself

I went through the whole bike when I got it, switched the 53-42 chainrings to 51-36 and the 6 speed Shimano 600 FW from 13-26 to 13-28. The bike fits me perfect and handles great but it's made of Columbus Formula Two so the ride isn't as smooth as most of my other bikes (rides like a truck). Also, it came with Specialized Armadillo tires which didn't help. Pasela Tourguards made a big difference.

Columbus Formula Two tubing is a mystery. The bike takes a 27.2mm seatpost and it's been rumored to have been a mix of SL & SP tubes. My guess is that the frame is made of any pipe Bianchi had sitting on the shelf.

One other thing, It had 1st generation Campagnolo Syncro shifters. I spent a whole Saturday afternoon trying to get them to index reliably. My experiments included 2 Campy approved chains, 3 different approved freewheels and 3 different versions of Syncro levers plus all the different colored "tooth boss collars".

1st generation Syncro levers.

The problem was I couldn't index repeatedly on the stand no matter what I tried so how would it work on the road? No match for Shimano SIS!

I ended up neutering the 2nd generation levers: took out all of the guts because it wouldn't even friction shift smoothly. Now it works great.

Interesting to see a 1988 Giro. I have a 1989 and it's a totally different beast.

The '89 has SLX and I believe Athena components. What a difference a year makes...
