A Neighbour Gave Me...
An Aquila Strada Max the other day. It looks to be an early '90s era bike. Full 105 with Wolber GTX2 wheels, Modolo Sakae Ergo bars. OK condition, but looks like it's spent some time outside. Nothing is seized or anything like that, just some light rust on bolts, etc.
I'm either going to find a home for it complete or use it as a parts donor for a gravel bike project I've been meaning to do. I've got a Miyata 610 frame for the base.
Is it blasphemous to tear down the Aquila?

No. It is blasphemous to not post a picture though.

I was going to go with "the clap".
Thank goodness I'm incorrect.

Fancy that
All kidding aside, I'd like to see some pics, too.

Aluminum frame, big welds yes? I'd transplant to the Miyata in a heartbeat.

Just thinking the Aquila won't ever be a classic. They were part of a big alu trend in the early 90's, super popular in Toronto btw. The Miyata is a classic by default so don't be afraid to rob Peter to pay Paul.

That's because Aquila was and still is, essentially the house brand of the Toronto based Racer Sportif shop. Both are owned by Dennis Mizerski. They were big in the triathlon scene and even offered titianium models. Of course, these days they're also offering carbon fibre monocoques. I believe that 2018 is the 40th anniversary for Racer Sportif.

I forgot about them. Racer Sportif was a good shop, Colnagos, Bianchi's, nice stuff.

Cheers to neighbors who give us their old bikes. That's how I ended up with the Bianchi.

Looks like it might be one like I bought from ChaserTech on ebay. They are light and inexpensive, if a little ugly and a little difficult to work with.
The ChaserTech design is a visual knock-off of a Syncros unit, which to me are much better.
