Nothing exciting. 95° here today. I decided to move the brake levers up on the handlebars on my '78 Peugeot. I've had it a year now, and changed the brakes to Campy aero levers, but missed the location, too low. I didn't want to mess with re-positioning cables and bar wrap, so I've been living with it. Too hot to ride, so I worked on these out in the patio. Following the repositioning, and re-tape, I needed to do a test ride. Turned out to be just over 10 miles. Feels better. Why did I wait a year to do it? It was too hot to ride, but it probably helped the tape wrap easier.
The faux leather tape re-wrapped very nicely again.

30 miles on my fixed gear 76 Grand Jubile.

Longest fixed gear ride I've ever done, not being able to rest by coasting creates a really interesting kind of fatigue in my legs. Hard to describe, but interesting none the less.

I got in 12 miles yesterday after adding a rear rack and basket on my official 'grocery getter ' bike, a lugged Trek 950 from 1989.

The front rack & basket was installed last week.

I'm not sure I'll keep the front rack & basket as it does effect steering, adding quite a bit more front wheel flop even more pronounced after adding a few pounds of stuff.

They were mowing the blackberry bushes along several miles of road on the south end of the island. A lot of debris on the road along this section and I had a couple of flats. I didn’t let that ruin my day, just took my time patching the tubes and enjoying my surroundings. I did decide that I don’t like the Leyzene Road Drive pump I have on this bike and made a mental note to get one of those CO2 inflators for this bike later this week. Never have used them before but feel with the high pressure tires it would make sense.

Shifting into the big ring and dropping down the Westside Road is a thrill on the senses. Cool wind howling in your ears as you pick up speed, smooth pavement below, and the view of Vancouver Island in the distance introduce you to some of the best of what the island has to offer the cyclist as you head towards Lime Kiln State Park.

I wandered around on my way back to Friday Harbor, checking out some new roads instead of doing the standard loop. I think of all the Islands in the San Juan group, I like this one the best.

I took the evening ferry back to Anacortes and then the long drive home. A long day for sure but well worth the effort…

I rode to class yesterday. I'm back in college finishing the degree I left undone over 30 years ago. It rained hard, and my bike got very dirty.

After my exertions last week in the Heavyweight division, shall we say, closing a gap in my cycling experience ( GAP ) I decided it was a great day to drop back down to the Flyweight division. Took the Raleigh down to Oaks, PA and just tootled along the Schuylkill River Trail. No training, no goals, no luggage, no objective and all day to do it. It was grand flicking that British chrome in the sun and playing in the shade. JRA - just riding around. 30 miles and a easy pace and low heart rate. Life is good.

32 miles on the '73 Super Course, down the coast from Ventura to Port Hueneme Lighthouse. It was a great day to ride. The lighthouse is kind of art deco cool, and I met a lady, riding a pink Huffy with big tires, who feeds the feral cats . She says the city likes keeping the cats around because they have no rodent problem. Just behind the lighthouse is a new car arrival terminal, and if the cats weren't on the job, rodents would be feasting on the car's delicate tasty bits. They catch and fix cats whenever they can. It was a great day to ride. Saw a nice heron too.

I haven't posted here in a while, this was a weird summer for riding. I had been hitting a couple short 10-20 mile rides weekly plus one 50-80 mile ride every other week or so in spring and early summer, but once mid-July hit the longer rides dropped off steeply. A week vacation followed by a week travel for work in August continued that trend. I discovered Zwift a bit over a week ago and have logged 130+ miles on the trainer since with some 'real' rides mixed in.
