Black rando bag hardware?
I'm thinking of getting a rando bag. My seasons for a rando bag as opposed to a handlebar mounted bag (like an Arkel handlebar bag) are 1) lower center of mass and 2) I think it will be more rugged to be supported underneath.
All the hardware I've seen (Nitto, V.O., Berthoud, etc.) has a stainless/chrome retro look, while my bike (2015 Novara Randonee) is basic modern black anodized. While I'm not overly concerned with style, I'd like to stay with the black anodized look if possible.
Doesn't anyone make black rando hardware, rack and the decaleur?
FWIW I have my eye on the Swift Hinterland Ozette bag, which is a traditional design I think with modern materials.
Also, for the rack, I was considering a basic touring front rack like the Old Man Mountain Sherpa (which would satisfy my desire for black hardware). At 635 grams it's a little heavier than typical rando mini-racks but has greater load capacity. It doesn't have the loop-tab in the back that the slips into the sleeve on the rando bag so I'd have to rig something. Anyone have any experience with this kind of setup?
This is for riding around town, off roading, and light touring, so weight isn't critical but is still a consideration. And the traditional ability to lift it right off the decaleur would be nice, but I can live with undoing a strap or 2 to remove it.
[if this is the wrong forum to ask this, apologies]

I bought that same Swift bag for my flat black CF Specialized Diverge.
I bought this rack https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002MKHR6G/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481153489&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=sunlite+gold+tec+front+rack&dpPl=1&dpID=41qR79SfyJL&ref=plSrch
Err, if that isn't clickable search Amazon for Sunlite Gold Tec Front Rack. That OMM rack is absurdly overkill as a porteur rack replacement.
I could get the above to work but have decided to get something custom made that is closer to a Nitto M12.

I have the nashbar version of that rack and it would be plenty to support a bigger rando bag. It would need something to support the bag but hardware store aluminum flatbar could likely be chopped up to hold the bag.

That lead me to look at more rugged things like the OMM rack. Whatever I get will be taking be taking a beating.
How are you attaching that Sunlight Gold rack? It looks sturdy enough for my purposes. I'd want to use the brazed-on screw holes on my forks, which are about 8 inches below the crown.

That's too bad, the 2014 model was nice and shiny. A coworker has one with hammered fenders and a polished rack and it's a looker.
Wonder what the "Co-Op" version will look like.

the traditional randonneuring bag is attached at the handlebars (with a decaler) for lateral stability. It's not really holding up any weight. I wouldn't expect any randonneuring style rack to fulfill this function. It is a safety issue, because it can fall off to the side. I have thought about putting a touring front rack for my randonneuring bag. Couldn't figure out how to mount the light without a lot of work though -- it's on the crown right now and would be blocked by the bag.

[responding to unter...] Na, Rivendells recommendation is to strap the _rack_ to the handlebars. You'd still want a decaleur for a bag. I could only guess it is due to the way the struts are mounted to the rack ... rather than being welded on, they're bolted on with a fender style sliding arrangement.
My front rack isn't mounted now to take pics, but my Diverge has mid-fork mounts that it attached to with the aid of some metal bent to form a bracket ... otherwise the included hardware worked fine for mounting to cantilever studs. I'd never consider strapping it to the handlebars, but I didn't expect to use it for anything but the Swift bag.

They're meant to attach to the canti posts and it has a small strip of stainless flatbar that connects to the fork crown too.

Why not get a Nitto and have it powdercoated?

here's a recent blog post by Ely at Ruthworks - rando bags, etc.
He shows a custom rack design by Eric at Winter Bicycles - could have a custom made any way you want.
Both are real nice guys.

My daughter's upright has a VO Passhunter front rack, though the rest of the bike is black trim, and it looks fine.
The Tubus Vega rear rack came powdercoated light gray and it nicely matches her silver paint.

I have the Nashbar mini front rack and also the Sunlite rack which was shown above by Clasher.
On my Sunlite rack, the two little metal pieces that bolt onto the cantilever posts were not bent right, I had to put them in a vice and use a big crescent wrench to bend them properly. I am happy with the rack, my comment is not intended to suggest you do not get it, I am only warning you that you might have to do the same. Of the two racks, I like the Nashbar one more. My Sunlite was bought in 2013 or early 2014, my Nashbar one was bought several years before that.
I use the racks just for small items that I want to stash somewhere, like a water bottle or piece of clothing or a lock. I use a handlebar bag on a second stem, so I do not use the rack for a bag like you are proposing to do.

Not really a solution.... but I'm in the same boat as you. I decided that I'd go with... and embrace.... silver for a few bits. When I realized that the rack would be silver, I decided to go with the silver light, and silver fenders to make it look like I did it on purpose. Not sure if it turned out right, but I like it...

That's a nice looking bike, very tasteful. I think black and silver look fine together. I have a batch of wheels with silver hubs and black rims

Well, a pair of black racks now exists: https://rawlandcycles.com/collections/gear
If your bike doesn't have mid-form mounts, some nice P-clips (in black) would take care of that.
The original black rack would have been the cheapo one from Nashbar. The silver Sunlite model seems to be its current version. These ones from Rawland are much nicer.

I know it's an old post, but did anyone come across a black decaleur? The 333fab one is almost $200. Although it's awesome.
