Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Problems mounting Schwalbe G-One Tubeless Tires

Hello.

I have had trouble now with two Schwalbe G-one tubeless tires. These are being mounted on brand new American Classic MTB Race 29er wheels. I get the tire mounted with no problem, and have been using Schwalbe's own tire bead lubricant to help get the bead over the lip on the inside of the rim. As I get the pressure up to 45 - 50 PSI and the bead pops out to the rim, the tire then blows off of the rim completely. (The sidewall of the G-one says 60 PSI max). Then when I dismount and remount the tire I find that clearly one bead is not as tight as the other leading me to the conclusion that one bead has stretched. Upon reinstallation and inflation I find that the same scenario repeats with the only difference being the same side blows off of the rim but now at an even lower pressure.

I did not exceed the tire pressure listed on the sidewall.

On Schwalbe's site they say to only mount the tires on ETRO tubeless rims with a 6mm side wall height, but the AM Classic rims measure a side wall height of 3.3mm. I called AM classic and they insisted that the rims are compatible with Schwalbe and the G-one should work fine with their rim.

Suspecting a bad tire, I bought another and the same scenario repeated.

I have contacted Schwalbe but as yet I have not heard anything back.

Has anyone else had this problem?

There have several similar problems with G-1's, see posts at https://www.bikeforums.net/cyclocros...l#post19901938 . It seems to be a quality control issue.

See this thread - same tires, same wheels, same problem (and no solution, that I see) - https://www.bikeforums.net/cyclocros...ternative.html

I don't know that it's a QC issue if it's on the same wheels (with a rim profile that Schwalbe evidently doesn't support) - sounds like a compatibility issue. My G-ones have been nothing but hunky-dory on HEDs with taller sidewalls.

Some do, some don't, but it shouldn't results in blowing off the rim, regardless (those that do need sealant need it because the casing is porous enough for air to seep through).

I was asking for my interest. There are some smooth flat roads I might see them as superior.

More tape on the rims helps seal tires that will not seat, but if you have too much tape the tire bead gets stuck on the inside of the bead then eventually pops out forcefully and can have enough inertia I believe to blow over the outer wall. It appears that is what is happening here...
