Shimano sponsored our local XC race series this week and they had GRX on display. It's your standard stuff but the shifters are what's the best part. They are small and have ridges on them for grip. They totally reminded me of sram red mechanical which are my favorite road hoods ever. So comfortable. Also pulling the lever and getting bite is much shorter than sram hydro. Shifting is your normal shimano fare so king of smoothness. Overall I think this group is going to be a winner.

Good to hear! The shifters have me excited. I'm generally happy with the 105 group on my Topstone, but the hydraulic shifters are as long as the Sphinx, and not super comfortable.

I may be alone in this but I am super excited for the wheelset. I’ve always been a fan of Shimano wheels for my training wheelsets on my road bikes because they are super reliable and easy to service. I’m sure the new GRX wheels are nothing special or blingy, but part of the reason I find myself gravitating to the gravel subculture is to get away from the bike snobbery that is so prevalent in the road scene.

Yeah SLX and XT are out today. Only thing is that you can only buy the group with the brakes. Shimano told me that the shifting group only will be out at end of July. I really want to ditch GX already on my XC bike. Tired of the RD feeling like it's going to explode every time I shift under load.

Chainline is different. Anyone know if it requires the GRX front derailleur or will 68xx front derailleurs work?

Pretty sure I read that you’ll need the new mech because they pushed the chain line out 2.5 mm or something like that

Haha yeah. I recently ditched my Guide R brakes when my wife went to Germany and picked me up a set of Magura MT7 Pros. Crazy how worlds apart the Maguras are vs the craptacular Guides. Sram might innovate but man their build quality is atrocious.

Actually I just realized one of those is a Box derailleur. We have one of the SRAM atrocities on the bike.

We had to ditch the Guide brakes too, in favor of TRP quad-pistons, which work well.

Not sure if you are just mocking me, but in case you are serious, the difference in chain-line is less than with my 68xx front derailleur and my White Industries crank, so you will be fine.

Based on this, I went into my LBS on that list, and what they said they have is a full XT group-set for a bit over $1K.

I don't know if it is just them (I never seem to get a straight answer), or general. But I have yet to see individual GRX or XT or SLX parts in shops or actually available (vs listed) on any website.

Check back with me later. My shop has the 48/31 crankset on order for me, and we're gonna stick it on the bike with my 8050 Di2 FD. And if that doesn't work, they have the GRX FD on order, just in case.
