Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I busted out an all time best 40 minutes on my favorite 12 mile loop from the house. Wimpy mileage but a great average speed for me.

Rode to Ludlow and back which, as you all know, is 51 miles with a big climb out of the flats at the end. The local club was doing a 70 mile ride over to Lake George on Saturday but I didn't want to leave the dog alone all day so I did the Ludlow ride alone instead -- but the dog was sure glad to see me when I got back . Thanks for asking.

I was on two wheels ... but with a motor! I rode 2up on my Honda VFR800 for 350 miles in KY. I took the day off from cycling. Gotta love 2 wheels!

Did a hilly 72 miler on Sunday morning in south-central Connecticut. Stopped only to relieve myself and to re-fill my bottles. Took me 4:13 (17 mph). Considering the hills, I'm pretty happy with my average speed - The last 10 miles I averaged 20+ mph........In the afternoon, I partied and ate everything in sight (with no remorse).

I spent 4 hours on my newly-built mountain bike. Fortunately, nothing fell of until I was 50 feet from home.

I had an excellent weekend to go with the excellent weather (for a change) that we had in New England. Did 20 Friday, 40 Saturday, 26 Sunday, then yesterday my wife and I did our first metric century by stringing together a few rides that we normally do. Came home and got to watch that exciting Stage 3 finish of the TDF, and topped it off with a BBQ with friends. Life is good

Time-Trial. It's a race against the clock. Pick two points and keep trying to get the best time traversing them.

Two friends and I did a long distance ride beginning in the San Fernando valley. I believe this is the area where Lance did some individual road riding and equipment testing late last year as Sheryl Crow reportedly has a ranch in this area. We started early to avoid the intense heat and headed westbound towards the coast. We ended up getting toasted by the noon sun.

Our eventual ride was 65 miles and total ascent was 5880'

So I did a metric century with a mile of climbing on the fourth of July!

Feels good!

Did about 35 miles through Potomac, MD with a group of about 7. Good workout, and nice to ride with folks since I'm usually solo!!

Rode from my house in West LA to San Diego, 130 miles, with stops for food, restrooms, water, seat adjustment, and legs. It was a long, but pretty ride along Pacific Coast Highway.

Edit: Also got to draft behind a nice triathlete around Carlsbad who let me save my legs for a decent stretch.

Normal ride out to Exon on 281 from Canyon Lake. 3rd ride on my new Eros Bianchi. Still deciding whether I like clips or not.

Did a 31 miler on Saturday, had TWO pinch flats about 500 yards from the end of the ride. I had put some new wheels on my Felt (Easton vistas) and went to my local shop to get some work done a few weeks ago. They put some 11mm rim tape on the wheels and man that stuff was all over the place (I'm a newbie) I had three pinch flats on those wheels, but after those two, I went and got some 18mm rim tape. Did a 34 miler on Monday. no problems. Great rides, in St Augustine with my dad. Those were my longest rides so far. Tonight I went out and did 21.5, which was my longest mid-week ride yet.

I did my longest of the season so far - 74 mile Sunstroke ride in Kokomo INdiana. Fairly flat but it was 92 degrees, lots of humidity, and a steady and depressing 15mph headwind for the last 50 miles. I was exhausted at the end. I averaged about 15mph with two official sag stops and two other stops at gas stations for more liquids. But - I love lemonade on rides and neither gas station food mart had lemonade. Bummer. A few days before I did a quick 50 miler with my sister. Now I am tired.
