Split Amongst Some Clipless Choices
My search for the perfect/budgeted pair of clipless is near it's end.
Behold.
The Look series.
Look PP247, cheapest Look available, heavier.
https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=5245
Look PP206, large platform, lighter.
https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=5245
Look A 5.1, weight unknown, strange, looks better, 47% off!
https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=5245
Look A 3.1, weight unknown, only 76 bucks.
https://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...eid=&pagename=
SPD.
Shimano PD-R540, another choice.
https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=5245
Speedplay.
Speedplay X5, free float, double sided, cheapest of speedplays, still over $100
https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=5245
Speedplay Frogs, little on the expensive side, but good.
Where can I buy em online for a good price? I don't like the inflated lbs prices.

I have two sets of SPD-SL Ultegras and they are the bomb! I bought the second set after riding the first for just two days. I would, therefore, recommend the R540s if that’s your price point. Same manufacturer, same technology, a bit more weight – so just drill some holes in your frame…but that might kill your aerodynamics…Shimano didn't change over their entire pedal line without figuring it out first. Stick with what works.

I just picked up a set of the Dura Ace 7800 SPD-SL pedals and I couldn't be happier with these pedals. I've never had an easier pedal to clip in and out of. I've owned Look pedals and many different SPD pedals prior to these. These are the best IMO.

You are right in the price range for the Look KeO Carbon/w CrMo spindles from ProBikeKit. Easy entry and exit, and they basically disappear while riding. I'm super happy with mine.

Sjjone is right; have you looked at the Time RXE or RXS pedals?
Look is also releasing cheaper versions of the KEO pedal for 2006 (Sprint and Classic)

Personally, I went with Ultegra SPD-SLs.

I'm a recent convert to clipless, although for many years I've used rat-traps, toe-clips & straps. I have Look PP396s on my 2 road bikes, and Shimano A520s on my mountain bike. I find the Looks are slightly easier to clip-in to without looking down, as they are asymetrical, whereas with the Shimano SPDs, it's difficult to determine which side is up without looking down. Both types release easily, and they make pedalling so much more efficient. FWIW -

Man, I spent all that time helping you and it comes to this? No more personal IM help from me.
go with the ultegras or the 105s, you wont regret it.

I have a set of Shimano 540's that I am very happy with them. I used to have Look 357's and I had a set of Time Atacs, replaced tha Atacs with the 540's.
Looks were easy to get in and out of like the 540's but I could not get them to quit squeaking. I have this thing about sqeaking noises, drives me nuts.

The older look 396's are also on sale...they're excellent too! Adjustable spring tension and float.

My RXE are falling apart and it's their first season.
RIP. It's a nice pedal, but not very rugged.

I've got the Shimano 540s and enjoy them. Have a matching set on my MTB (the version with a cage around it).

How high's the stack on the Quattros if you include the 3-hole adapter?
