How bad are cup o noodles for my diet
I'm a college student so money is kinda of tight. Well actually more like instead of eating pizza and beer I've been buying bike parts. I'm a Cat4 and I want to see if I can make Cat 2 before the end of next season. I eat oatmoeal and cup o noodles, no soda. Oatmeal is cheap and nutritious but I get sick of it sometimes so I have been eating those microwavable noodles. i don't drink the broth, i just eat the noodles.

If you think you're good enough to be a Cat2 racer, maybe you should consider getting sponsorship from your local grocery store.

you know, I sometimes have really intense cravings for ramen noodles after I work out, and I would never eat that stuff on normal occasions. It might be the carbs or the salt, I don't know...

Get instant noodles in the package and boil them in plain salted water. Remove from water and add a touch of soy sauce and sesame oil. You can get them so cheap, like 10/dollar or something. Discard the "seasoning" packet. Poach an egg in the liquid for all the vitamins and minerals you'll ever need (except for vit. C) and eat that with your noodles for breakfast.
Or.. cook a bunch of pasta. Thin spaghetti because it takes less time to cook and therefore less waste of gas. Chop some garlic, heat in some olive oil over medium heat until light brown, pour oil over pasta. Shave a little fresh parmesan and fresh cracked pepper. A touch of red wine vinegar brightens it up, but I like plain old spaghetti and garlic.

Check out the bulk bins at a co-op or local grocery store. I've made a week's worth of breakfast and lunch for $5 and it will be more nutritious than your noodles.

If I remember correctly (been a very long time) the noodles themselves are deep-fried in palm oil. You'd be better off with spaghetti.

...I eat ramen noodles and practically do the same thing....
haha, I don't drink the broth, and put about 2/3 of the packet it to begin with. I dropped like 8-10 lbs during the month I was short on money/eating ramen for breakfast as well as lunch/dinner. I wasn't riding at the time, but they didn't kill me o r anything.

They won't kill you in the short term, but understand that all they are, are carbs, oil, and salt. Make sure that you supplement them with sides or toppings made of good healthy food or keep your consumption to a minimum.
For example, adding bits of real chicken breast, an egg, and some chopped veggies like some shredded lettuce or Asian Bok Choi makes for a more authentic and healthier ramen bowl.
I love ramen, but I normally stick with spaghetti. It's much healthier than ramen all around. It's also cheap if you can buy ingredients in bulk.
If you have a local Asian food store, the ramen in bags tastes a lot better than the cups, and they produce less waste. Nissin and Sapporo Ichiban are pretty good brands.

Ramen noodles got me through college. It's amazing how little money you have left after spending it all on beer.

I also get cravings for ramen after workouts. It's probably the salt.
It sounds like you are in a dorm and do not have a stove -- only a microwave. Get a solid (ie not soft plastic) bowl and microwave a couple cups of water in it for 12 minutes. Pour in the pasta and microwave again for another 12 minutes. Pasta will be cooked nice and tender. Oh yeah, it's super-*******-hot, so be careful. That's how I had to do it when I was in a dorm.
Don't be so strict on your diet until like a month before racing. It adds undue stress to your workouts.

I don't recall where I read that the instant noodles have fillers in them from byproducts of wood. Somehow its cheaper than flour. This is the noodles itself, not the flavoring packet.

12 minutes? Is your microwave not very good, or low powered? Cause once the waters boiling, any further time in the microwave just decreases the amount of water you have.

I remember my freshman year when I would buy ramen noodles, and sprinkle the powder on the dry noodles and eat it like a sandwich or something. Those were the days.

Long story short - they're very bad. Full of fats and simple carbs that you would be better off getting elsewhere. Try potatoes (sweet or white), parboiled brown rice, or high fiber/low fat wheat bread for better "ease of use" carb sources.

if you want nutritious/easy on a budget buy chunky soups instead--the beef barley and other low fat ones. Low in fat, lots of carbs, and protein. Or, they make a chunky grilled steak chili--also low in fat, tons of complex carbs and protein. You can also make kraft mac and cheese using non-fat milk and less butter for cheap

Take the holiday turkey. Save the bones and meat scraps. Put them in the slow cooker with water to cover, and a little salt. Cook on high for a few hours. Strain the broth. Freeze it in ice cube trays. Cook your plain noodles and flavor with a couple cubes of broth and some chopped vegetables. Frozen vegs are cheaper. Fry a couple eggs (10 cents each and great protein and vitamins.
MMMMMM!!!!

Sometimes on flights to Japan they pass these out as mid-flight snacks. Then the whole plane smells like ramen.

It's mandatory for anyone consuming cup-noodles on a daily basis to perform this self-test every evening: Check under both eyelids, they should be healthy and pink. Then take shirt off, stand in front of a mirror, turn off the room lights. The skin should not be glowing green. If you fail any of these tests, you should switch to Kraft Dinner immediately.
