Sourcing Parts
I just started a project- it's my first project... and after some reading around, I've seen people seem to think scoring old parts is cheap and easy...
Aside from the Ebays, what are the best ways of finding the old component groups? Cruising CL for a donor bike?
How about for those components that are hard to find anyway?
Without giving away any trade secrets (or if you want to PM me trade secrets, I'll keep my mouth shut...
), where do you go to find decent old parts at decent prices?

I score cheap parts, but it usually is not easy. The cheapest parts come in the shape of a bike. Hit the garage sales, thrift stores and so on. I have bought complete bikes at garage sales for as little as $5, complete bikes at thrift stores as low as $6.
I did just buy a Suntour Blue Line derailleur set (front, rear, and levers) for $16 delivered on ebay. But I get very few parts off ebay.

If don't see any harm in making a cash offer if you don't have anything to trade. Just make sure you take care of that through PM's to the individual. Some of the Suntour parts can be had for an ok price through ebay... like the V series derailleurs. They are plentiful and have a great reputation.
