Still working on a better photo location but at least this shot does the bike and threadless conversion/adapter some justice. I added the -17° polished silver stem today, made from a black Kalloy Uno and way too much time in front of a buffing wheel. Seems worth the effort now that I step back and look at it.

I like that stem (and background) better than the previous. Really nice.

Sorry Joejack ... not been the best week, best month, best year, or best decade .... Life sux until you die, I hear.
I did get two sort of decent rides in though.
I will actually measure my stem ... really ... and then i will watch this video.
Thanks very much.

Over on Weight Weenies I've been discussing for some time now a conversion kit to allow one to use 12mm thru axle wheels with a 15mm thru axle fork (a bygone standard of the 'early' road disc days). And I finally have something to show for it.
Needs to be road tested but here it is in the flesh. Currently designed to fit my Hong Fu fork (10mm thru hole drop out thickness, 15mm threaded dropout thickness) and to use a standard 12mm x 125mm long thru axle with 12mm of threads (https://www.jensonusa.com/Rockshox-Maxle-Stealth)
Note that the threaded adapter is slightly backed off from being fully threaded into the dropout. I expect that there will be some variation in dropout thickness so the plan will be to use shims under the outside flange to get the inner portion just flush with the dropout. I plan to include a few shims with each set for this purpose.

May I ask a simple favor of anyone with a rigid 15mm thru axle fork (road, cyclocross, or MTB)? Could you measure both dropout thicknesses, preferably to the tenth of a millimeter but anything is better than nothing. And for once I don't need exact measurements, just rememeber which measurement applies to which dropout if they are different.
TIA!
TIA!

Just FYI campy ASF rotor do not work well with shimano pads, shimano pads are too short and only cover about 3/4 of the braking surface, not a big deal in dry, but I experienced significant decrease in power while in wet with my 9170 hydro

Thanks for that tip. I found too good of a deal on another set of XTR rotors so I went with them again for the new wheelset. Glad I did having heard about this issue now.

On the 15mm to 12mm thru axle fork adapters, I have made good progress over on Weight Weenies with learning about different fork dimensions. Apparently Niner’s RDO fork is nearly identical to my Hong Fu. And Parlee’s forks are symmetric at 13mm per side (will require a special kit or some trimming of the threaded insert at least).
Still hoping to gather more info, of course.

Install video for fork thru axle conversion kit:

I have some miles on my converted fork and things seem to be working out.

For anyone who happens upon this thread and is wondering about the conversion kits, below is a snippet that is also posted over on the YouTube video linked above:
Kicking off production today (11/7/2019) for the following thru axle fork conversion kits:
15 (1.5mm pitch) + 10 (several manufacturers including TRP, Whisky, Niner, GT, Ridley, Scott, Jamis, Rose, KTM & some open mold road forks including Hong Fu)
15 (1mm pitch) + 15 (2015 Specialized Diverge)
13 + 13 (Parlee, Raleigh)
15 + 15 (some Merida)
19 + 19 (2015-2016 Trek Domane and Crockett, some Merida, some open mold CX forks)
New addition: 25 + 25 (Lauf [non-JAF], Santa Cruz, and a few other MTB forks)
Measurements are listed by threaded side + thru hole side. Unless otherwise noted, thread pitch is 1.5mm for the threaded side external threads. All internal threads are M12x1.5mm.
Amazon will be stocked hopefully before year end but kits should be available to ship direct by mid-December.

Interesting thread, here. Glad to see you are making a go of the machining manufacturing business. Can you sponsor my racing team?
Seriously, I like seeing people with skill and ingenuity making stuff and making good. Props to you, sir.

A smorgasbord of conversion parts! Almost ready to start shipping. What's shown ought to cover 99% of applications out there, most of which with no trimming required. I'm not opposed to making more variations, of course. I'm still debating making custom thru axles to use with these kits as the axle lengths required for a 'perfect' fit don't necessarily exist. We'll see how this project goes for the time being.

No sooner did I say '99%' than I discovered some of the weirdness out there from a few big names, notably 3T and Focus. The former have a fork, the Luteus II, which has a 15mm thru axle but, similar to Fox suspension forks, has an insert on one side with M14x1.5 threads. Focus used a 15mm RAT-compatible axle on their Mares forks. Kits exist to use a standard 15mm thru axle but nothing to go down to 12. Below are my solutions for these forks (standard thru hole insert not pictured), which hopefully get me back close to that 99% figure

Long time, no post (in this thread)!
Oh how naive I was not much more than a year ago thinking that a smattering of parts would cover all of the 15mm forks someone might want to convert to 12mm. I've since expanded the range a bit, now including thru axles with all kits. Today, I took some 'family photos' to document, if for no other reason than my own curiosity, just how wide ranging the bicycle world can make something like a simple fork. I have three pics, one of just thru axles, one for threaded inserts, and one for thread adapters. Some of these fit only one fork, others fit many. Note that I also make inserts for the other end of the fork but those aren't as fun to look at. Enjoy!
