I debated whether I would post this in the "Seen in the Wild" thread or here, but I think here it will be more appreciated and useful as inspiration for future readers... Was walking out of a grocery store today and spied this gorgeous Dave Moulten Fuso built up with modern Shimano components out in the parking lot!

Posted elsewhere, and not technically with STIs, but here's how my modernized Vent Noir turned out!

This bike will be ridden a lot this coming year. A 1973 Colnago Super, original Campy Record Brakes, Dura Ace 9 speed levers and derailleurs, 28mm Specialized Turbo tubular tires on Easton Alloy wheels. Weighs 18 pounds plus or minus an ounce or two.

On more modern bikes I like the Campagnolo Ergopower levers over the Shimanos and SRAMs. These TRL levers are just brake levers and not shifters, but the shape if very close to the current Ertos. But the lever itself is an improvement, since it is bent outward. To me the parts of the lever where I can get a lot force if needed falls right under my fingers, both when braking from the hoods and from the hooks! And the shape of the hoods is really nice, too. Even for my 68 year old hands.

New guy throwing my hat in the ring. 1992 Bridgestone RB-1 I just finished last night. well, "finished". Need a black seatpost, brakes, derail...anyway. Don't hate too much. I know Bridgestones are highly regarded when original. The original decals were thrashed. I got the black version off of velocals and it was a perfect replacement for the white. Still have to clear over it. Can't wait to ride this thing. First ever "nice" wheelset. Previously only has hand me down wheel hybrid wheels on tiagra hubs. Onto the specs:
Frame: 50CM RB-1
Fork: Origin 8 1in threadless carbon
Headset: Origin 8
Wheels: Velocity A23 rims, Sapim xray spokes, custom Orbwheels hubs (1450g without skewers)
Tires: Panaracer Gravel king 700x28
Group: Mishmash of 105 brifters, 105 FD and Tiagra RD, SRAM 1070 11-34, Shimano GRX 30-46 crankset
Brakes Tektro something or other
Misc: Ksport Combo mount for Garmin/lights

After months of looking I finally found a Cinelli Volare SLX saddle, so my Nikor is now finished and exactly as I'd like it.

New Bike Day: ‘82 Trek 613
Early 90s 8s Campagnolo (hodgepodge SRAM cassette with custom spacers). First gen Record Ergos. Croce crank thanks to Bikerider007 . Record (I think, thanks to Brewsmith ) RD with a Record OR cage for a bit more wrap. Athena clamp on FD. Need to figure out gearing as 53/42 and 11-28 ain't gonna cut it for me (was gonna run 46/30 and may still, hit a snag on the other crank, but do love the Croce look). 33mm Soma Supple Vitesse SL tires with latex tubes, smooth as silk on the chip seal and cracks.
Not sure on whether I’ll use the original (death) fork or keep the Tange CrMo chrome on there. The original didn’t have enough stack for the interesting Ofmega C-Record copycat headset I came across.
Front brake is a Dura Ace centerpull thanks to orangeology. Rear brake is only OEM component left. Technomic (as far down as I can push it) and Noodle handlebar. Not remotely vintage wheels, sorry.
First reasonable ride today and I set a bunch of PRs on a really common route for me. So either my trainer time is helping or this bike isn’t too slow. Snuck out to ride at lunch while 60deg before the snow (two feet in the forecast Fri/Sat/Sun). Slack sports tourer geometry (73/73 long CS) but feels great on the flats, climbing and descending.

New here. And not a big bike restorer. But here's my question:
I have a 1993 Bianchi Campione (I'm the original owner and it's my only road bike).I am tired of the downtube gear levers, and want to replace them with something on the handlebar. The bike is 2 x 7. I'd like to use Shimano o 105 St 5800 2 x 7, but the closest I can find are these two (1) Shimano Tourney 2 x7 and (2) Shimano 105 St 1055 2x8. I gather that the 105s would be much better, but will they work. If not, would I be happy with th Tourney, or are there other options? Also, could I combine, with 105 on the left and Tourney on the right? THANKS so much.

When you say Tourney, you mean modern Tourney, right? I don't think you would have a problem with these, although it's not my area of expertise.
Another option is to track down some vintage 2 x 7 speed STI brifters like RSX.
Sure, but it would look a bit odd.

Stripped my race bike of the SRAM Red 10 speed group and carbon bits and put it onto a recently purchased late 90s Bianchi reparto corse cyclocross frame. With super light wheelset for road use and a mavic open pro set with knobbies for the dirt. Weighs 20 lbs as pictured and it goes real fast. Like REAL fast.
