As I'm now able to post images, I wanted to share a few of them of my Miele. Your assistance would be great to help identify the specific model name and overall thoughts on the bike itself.

I am the original owner. I bought it in 1986 or so in Northern Toronto from a local bike shop at the time.
The colour is the teal which changes shade depending on the time of day or artificial light.
The derailleurs are Shimano SIS with the chainring being an oval "Sugino VP".
The frame has the "Tange 900" sticker on it.

I had briefly listed it for sale and had a number of buyers willing to pay what I was selling it for; I had listed it for $450 CAD.

I realize it doesn't have some of the higher end components including padded bar tape, group set, and hidden brake cables.

What is everyone's thoughts on a reasonable Canadian price to sell it? (I realize Covid is helping the demand)?

Edit: I should mention I did swap out the original cassette and replaced it with this one back in the late eighties. Otherwise, no other changes made and is original.

Hello, first post...I just acquired a Miele Gara Triathlon to use on a bike trainer over the winter for fitness. It has plenty of scrapes and scratches but I think it will do for its purpose. Any tips on how to make the chrome shine on the fork?

Welcome to bikeforums!
For the fork, try the following:

- Remove rust with the following (in increasing order of potential damage to the finish)
1. Vinegar or citric acid solution - apply with a brush and let sit for 5 minutes
2. Vinegar overnight soak. Soak some paper towels with vinegar and apply to corroded areas. Cover with plastic to prevent vinegar from evaporating.
3. CLR or other strong acid. Apply carefully with a brush and let sit for 5 minutes. If that doesn't work let sit for 10-15 mins. This may damage the finish, so test on an inconspicuous area first.
4. Mild abrasive such as automotive polishing compound or 2000 grit wet sandpaper
5. 3M scotch pad for non-stick pans

Thank you for the welcome! I saw a YouTube video where someone used aluminum foil and water. I tried it out and it did the trick. Not showroom quality but it didn't leave visible scratches either.

Next up I may try a polish....😁

Although a life long Torontonian (currently west of the city) unfortunately i do not own a Miele. Came close to picking one up this summer on some really good deals but they moved quickly. Otherwise, they are very expensive even for mid level model that needs a bit of work.

Still my goal to find one and take it downtown to join the rest of the owners. Is there like a Miele bike group ride or something that happened prior to COVID?

If people can get organized to ride naked every year, surely it's possible to organize a vintage bike cruise somewhere in Toronto?

Based on the decal style and components, it's a 1987 Miele Uno, which was the bottom of the line sports model. It looks to be OEM with the exception of replacement nylon pedals, saddle and foam bar covering. The Shimano Light Action rear derailleur, and Z-series front are OEM. It appears to have the correct Miele branded Dia-Compe 500 brakes and Sakae crankset. 1987 was the last year for 27" rims on this model and the combination of a quick release on the front hub and axle nuts on the rea hub is correct. The frame specs were plain gauge CrMo with hi-tensile steel used in the fork blades and stays. IMO, that's pretty aggressive pricing for this time of year in the Ottawa market, even with the Covid-19 premium.

A quick question on replacement tires. I’d be interested in picking up a set of gumwalls but there isn’t much of a selection.

T-Mar and Miele Man can I have your guidance please on tire size. My Uno LS have 700x23 installed.Do you think a 700x28 would fit?

My Miele UNO LS had 27" wheels on it. I swapped them for 700C wheels and can put 30mm Schwalbe CX-Pro (cyclo-cross) tires on it okay with fenders.

The 1988-1989, 700C version of the Uno LS was spec'd with 28C tyres.

This is interesting as I'm the original owner of my Uno LS and it came with 23C tires (unless they switched them at the dealer way back when).

It could also be a factory error or supply issue. The literature shows 28C for the Uno LS, then 25C for the other sports models and 23C for the racing models. So, even if was a printing error in the catalogue, I would have expected the Uno LS to have 25C, like the other Sports models. The other possibility is that Guvin changed specs after issuing the 1989 catalogue and used 23C across the board, to taken advantage of higher volume cost reductions and decreased logistical problems.

In the event you’re curious or if it makes any difference to the above, I just checked the make of the tires. On the sidewall, I’m seeing they’re made by Cheng Shin Tire.

Also, my frame does not have the “uno LS” sticker on the top tube like I’ve seen on other bikes. Not sure if it makes a difference on the model.

Built this up from a frame for someone else. Not sure of the year or model. It is labeled Columbus Cromor, and takes a 27.2 seat post.

Based on the decals, I'd place this circa 1989. It doesn't have the brazed-on front derailleur hanger of the Lupa or Gara, so it could be either an Alba or Tivoli.

Does anybody have the Miele catalog listings for around 1987-1991? I had 2 Miele's in the 1980's and often look for higher end models in small sizes. But, it would be helpful is someone had the spec lists for these bikes originally. I remember getting a fold out brochure around 1988 that had them all listed. Thanks in advance!

If you're asking for copies of all the catalogues for 1987-1991, that's a pretty big task. If you're trying to identify the two Miele that you owned, we'd need more specifics about those two bicycles. If you're searching out higher end Miele from that period, it's not too hard to compile a list but it's not really useful. In my experience, most sellers don't know or include the model names in their advertisements. As evidence, just look at the large number of identification requests in this thread. In my opinion, you're better off just searching for Miele and filtering based on size, tubeset and components.
