Any idea what the price range on this early 70's Paramount would be? Looks to be in good condition with factory components.
I'm interested in the bike, but have no idea where to even begin in terms of valuation.

The seller is asking $6200 /obo. It does look like a nicely cared for Paramount, but 1/3 of the asking price would be the high end of the market for this, IMHO. I'd start at about 1/6 of the asking price, but in reality the seller is highly unlikely to even entertain such offers given their starting price.

First, the price is, as others have said, way too high. Some will pay as much as $1500 - $2000 US for such a bike, if it is all original and in excellent condition. But there is another issue...
The seller has very little feedback reports and one of them is negative already (12 reports). Chances are he or she won't know much about how to properly pack a bike for shipment, assuming shipping turns out to be in order.
Pass on that bike.

He/she will get no where near that price. I have a Paramount all original 1973 in about an 8 condition.
Got it last year for 800.00
I drove over 12 hours round trip to get it.
And, interestingly enough...it was in PA !!!!!! not in York though....... as this one is.
It is in very good condition, however the down tube decals are weak and the right side S is not complete.
Plus that large frame will fit maybe 20% of the population.
Don't even consider this bike at this OUTRAGEOUS price.!!!!

Thanks fellas. I was thinking similarly, but haven't been in the buying market for years and wasn't sure of myself.
I put in a competitive "best offer" and it was auto declined. Looks like he has sky high expectations for it.

I have bought and sold several Paramounts over the last decade. Most I ever paid for a 1972 Paramount was $1200. Schwinn Paramount production that year was about 3500, I believe. Bought a 1972 chrome, 24" Paramount with two sets of wheels for $1100 ten years ago. My last Paramount, purchased a year ago, is a 1972, 24 inch frame with Weinmann brakes. Paid $800 for it.

if it was in the middle of the bell curve of sizes 22-23” frame I could maybe see $2,500 if it was Perfect. As noted, 1972 was a high volume year but near the end for the chrome bikes.
a ‘68 with “no- name” Campagnolo brakes in nice shape 20.5” frame got $2K in Southern Cal CL not too long ago.
Besides, tall guys are cheap.

This bike has no soul. Purchased and barely ridden, its an unused weeping survivor. A bike that just remained idle for 50 years.
A friend of mine many years ago showed me a Paramount that he had been gifted. I would not have known it was a Paramount because the decals were worn away. The bike was white with extensive scratches everywhere. Ripped brake hoods, pedal dustcaps shaved down, brake levers gouged, bar tape mangled. He proudly presented it as "the fastest bike around". He aquired it from a US Pro Criterium champion. That bike had soul.

Agree that $6,200 is too high for this by orders of magnitude. It's a good bike, but it isn't that good. Basically, he's asking a Confente price for a Paramount. Just saying that should be enough to tell you how crazy the price is.
Also, from looking at the ad, this guy is too personally invested in how great a bike he thinks it is to sell it for a realistic price. You took your shot; walk away.

Does anyone have Paramount production numbers by year? I saw one some time ago (which showed relatively few being produced before the bike boom years and then shooting up thereafter), but the searches I've tried only show numerous links on serial numbers.

spudly: here you go . The numbers in white (38-59) are place holders Paramounts were avalible from the catalougs but currently there is no way to seperate them by year. The blue numbers are from the Waterford website. The orange numbers are my guess as to the other years. The green numbers are what you get if you add up the highest serial number I have foungd

About, 4000.00 too much, chrome "P's" are at a premium but that's HWR. IMO.

I have seen a few “chromies” in that condition sell for less than a third of that. They are beautiful bikes and I have spent some time riding a P13 of that vintage that belonged to a friend. I know they have a following but not any where near that price. I am glad the owner loves it so much , he is going to own it for a while.

Great looking bike but as said price is just way too high. In the current market lugged steel frame road bikes top out at about $2000 regardless of make and model.
