Removing Dura Ace handle bars

It doesn't look like it takes a hex head wrench and the bolt doesn't go straight down the
head tube like my other bikes .It's at an angle.

sounds like your dura-ace AX again (case you have not guessed the AX group with all of it's aero design is an odd duck)

it seems they have and internal clamp..

guessing that you pop the dust cap and use long 6mm hex thru the stem to a bolt

Velo base is your friend

VeloBase.com - Component: Shimano HS-7300, Dura-Ace AX

came with a long 6mm allen key as clamping of both the bars and quill were performed internally.
The quill clamp bolt has 2 different threads so the tapered wedge was tightened or loosened depending which way it was turned and did not require hitting with a hammer to release. I know of 9,10,11,12, & 13cm. Shorter may have been made...

I saw that. It's the solid metal piece 1/4 inch in the hole a dust cap?

You were right. There is a slot on the metal piece and I tried prying on it. That didn't work so I tried twisting on it with a screw driver and it unthreaded. Why they didn't just didnt put a hex head on it I'll never know. Thanks for the help.

That looks like it "was" a hex at one time, just all worn out now.

The dust cap unscrews, and then a long-ish hex key is used to tighten either the stem or the bars.

Maybe you should strip it down to the frame & rebuild with more common components ..

Probably why the seller got rid of it, maybe bought and flipped it.. promptly..

I may be crazy but I like to keep a vintage bike as original as possible. I think
the seller didn't know much about what he had. I paid $190 for it and he found it
at a thrift store for $20

I think its angled because its just a cap.. unscrewing it, lets you access the handle bar clamp bolt forward

and the quill wedge bolt downward, , 2 separate things...

That's the price you pay for period correct, semi-rare, vintage NOS parts.

Or you cut a slot with a hacksaw/dremel in the one you have and a big screwdriver

As you've found out from other posts, there was a hex socket on t hat part originally.

Dura Ace AX stuff was only made for about three years. Thus it's fairly rare to see new old stock parts for it and that increases the prices of those parts.

Btw, the spindle of the bottom bracket is NOT compatible with a lot of newer stuff. Here's a reply I got about that about five years ago.

"The taper is the same. The sections of that taper are different.

All quality spindles from the first aluminum square tyaper
systems in the 1930s shared one format, rightmost here:
https://www.yellowjersey.org/photosfr...t/3SPINDLE.JPG

Your Dura Ace FC7300 takes that style and fortunately
interchanges with classic Record/N.Record 1960 though 1986
which is an asymmetric spindle (as are most classic designs).
Compatible sealed units are Phil Wood #2 , Stronglight sealed
Piste, Mavic (model? 1980s) and others, not by Shimano nor
Campagnolo."

Good luck and cheers
