I think with practice I can make it a 30-second or less procedure. The wheel winds up in the same spot in the dropout, though I suppose I could run the 44x19 for a 64-in gear; I would have to alter the chain length and fiddle with things to get 42x17/67-in to work, and it's not worth it to me. The other side of the flip/flop hub currently wears a 17/19T White Industries Dos Eno freewheel, but I really would prefer a 20/22T unit - unless I just grab a 21 or 22T single-speed freewheel and call it done. That would get me down in the 50 to 54-in range for gentle singletrack, if I felt so inclined.
Interesting stuff, I didn't know about that. Not that I would run a fixed gear myself, but I know people who do. Thanks for the explanation.

My "Geezer mobile"

This my "Geezer," mobile. I've had it for a few years, and its running pretty good so far. Just did a basic tune up on myself for the first time. Looking forward to doing some more wrenching, lord willing and the flood waters don't rise.

I just got this one yesterday and I am overhauling it...the best I can. I might get into mountain bike or at the very least use it as a gravel bike.

I'm going to build this one up, and use it as a road bike and hopefully not break the frame.

Of course I am joking about being a "geezer." I turned 50 in August...and yeah I feel a little old, but I think that's more of a consequence of the various health challenged I've had over the years.

I just finished rebuilding this 1971 Raleigh Super Course. The headset and brake calipers are original. Everything else is not. It has a Claris 2x8 drivetrain and a hub-dynamo-powered headlight.

I found the bike in the trash in 2008, and I've rebuilt it many times since then. A neighbor told me he had previously picked it from the trash rebuilt it for a mutual neighbor, and the latter eventually tossed it in the trash.

The Trek I bought a couple of years ago when I grew tired of riding my Marin trail bike. The Takara I bought recently because the Trek made me miss my old Bike from high school.

I scrolled back several pages and don’t think I posted the final build on this one. Endurance geometry for me from 1983.

Mine. To be rebuilt this winter with XT/GRX (40x11-42), and a good wheelset. I'm now 69; this will probably last me a good while; my arthritic self likes the FS 2.0.

A bike I rebuilt just for fun. An old Aero Frameset Velo Sport with Cinelli Time-Trial handlebar and carbon-fiber brake levers. Wheels are 27" with 1" tires and the gear is 70.1 gear inches. A nice ride on gently rolling hills.

Cheers
