Do these frames make me look fat (heavy?)

More details later, but disassembled 5 of my 6 bikes, and the frames going to the powder coater. Hmm, while I have them here, I broke out our new digital kitchen scale and weighed them. I’ve really not thought much about frame weight before, but do these seem heavy… or light?

(Note: all are 24” ST C-to-T, except the Falcon which is 23”, and all include a fork but no headset)

1. 1974 Zeus track, I wish I knew what tubing, and the fork is a Tange: 6LB 2.66oz
2. 1961 Gitane, I was TOLD 46 years ago it was 531 straight gauge tubes w/Durifort forks and stays, but I cannot prove that: 7LB 7.30oz
3. 1958 Drysdale, 531 throughout: 5LB 15.63oz
4. 1974 Falcon, no tubing decal but forged dropouts: 6LB 10.42oz
5. 1980 Palo Alto, Columbus tubing: 6LB 0.05oz

Mostly curious, even if these are all boat anchors they are the bikes I’ve owned for between 23 and 46 years; they are “my bikes” and I am resurrecting them, finally.

Can't wait to see them! An extra few pounds for a 200lb rider+bike+gear is like an extra few lbs on your SO - doesn't matter...at...all

56cm CtC Serotta frame+fork (completely stripped) is 6 pounds even.

Columbus SLX tubeset throughout. Seems kind of heavy to me.........

So by today's standards, they are bricks!

Good (frame/fork/headset) lugged frameset weights for bikes in the 25" / 63.5cm CTT range (Prestige, SL, SLX, 531, etc....but mostly Prestige) is 3,000g or 6 lb 9 oz. Knock the headset out and it's around 6 lb 5 oz. I'd say that your bikes in the low 6 lb range are of light weight, relative to their lugged brethren.

I'll post photos of each, I think I'll run five different topics; I'll need to ask for ideas on some parts sourcing, etc.

Or so I thought, I did think the Palo Alto, the baby of the bunch, felt featherweight when I picked it up w/out components.

That gives me a decent baseline, thanks. The Gitane stands out as really heavy, which is interesting as I have memories of it being a lively ride. How much weight do the ornate lugs add?

Gotta go, I am putting paint stripper on the Palo Alto's frame & forks, I suspect the forks are chrome all the way up (and I could leave them all chrome) and far more chrome on the stays than is currently showing. Hmm, a few more grams?
