The great Irish road sprinter Sean Kelly used to abstain from sex completely when he was racing (and the racing year in those days ran from about February to October). Then there's the famous story about finding his wife leaning on his car, so he tells her to get off. She says to him, "you love the car more than me!" To which he replies, "No, first it's the bike, then the car, then you."

Gotta love that guy's dedication!

Having sex before an athletic event diminishing athletic performance is a myth, an old wive's tale.

All this talk about sex is quite entertaining. But we still need some votes. Give up sex or cycling, no third option.

You do know that once you start a thread it will take on a life of its own, and your ability to control it shrinks with each subsequent post?

She's doing it wrong! I'm left with no energy to eat after (and I'm only 49). She feeds me first. That look ain't cause she likes the seafood.

My bike can wait.

I'll put in another post ..

I completely agree with you and Bikey Mikey. Both activities are about more than just the physical action.... IMHO, both the physical and mental are important. If the physical was all it was about then we would be riding stationary bikes and self-flagellating ..

For me, there is a third option for this question. I give up sex while cycling. Likewise, I give up cycling during sex.

Does that include wives that have gone through "The Change" and told us we don't get those thoughts anymore?

The little blue magic pill didn't help me any. Reactions to medications took that stuff away. We have our way of showing our love and enjoying each other.
