Dura Ace FD 7400 or 7410 for DT shifters?
I'm wondering what the design difference is between the Dura Ace 7400 front derailleur and the 7410? I'd be using a 7410 crank and running 8 speed downtube shifters.
Does front derailleur choice matter in this situation? Are pros and cons either way?

Correct. Either works with friction shifters, but the 7403 and 7410 are optimised for STI's.

Looked at another way, does that mean that 7400 with DT shifters would be quicker to respond (i.e., more better)?

I think the difference is in the actuator lever length and angle. 7400 FD's were never meant to index, the later ones were changed to ensure that the STI cable pull would move the cage the correct distance for each 'click'.
Therefore a 7403 or 7410 would respond incrementally differently than a 7400 to the same amount of lever travel, but coild be either faster or slower. At any rate, the difference would be pretty minimal.
