Changing directions, I mentioned a few days ago that I was installing a Campy Record group on my Gianni Motta. The group was orphaned when I sold the frame set that it had resided on. The all carbon group including wheels and carbon bars was near $2800 but the used parts market is zilch so it languished in a box on a shelf till a couple weeks ago when a mechanic friend said all of the parts would install on my old steel Italian frame with no problems.
I weighed my Motta complete with pedals at 21.8#. With the new(er) group, it now weighs 19.5# complete with pedals. Most of the weight savings was in the Fulcrum Racing 0 wheelset (Campy Shamals) but I’m sure all of the carbon parts helped, too.
Still have some tweaking to do with the stem length reach and height but the first test ride felt every bit as smooth as my Propel. Pics when I get the cockpit sorted out and some other minor adjustments.

And I'm still down, and still not very hungry. I just ate a pear without complaint, but anything acidic, like an apple or a tomato, brings discomfort. Is this how the flu works? I honestly can't remember ever having it as an adult. I feel more-or-less fine, but low energy until mid-afternoon, and then no energy. I'm down only 3 pounds so far.

Latest safety related purchase:
Sends a VHF radio position signal if I fall off the boat in a squall on a moonless night. Replaces a satellite beacon where the info has to be relayed to outer space, to the SAR authorities, and back to the boat. Sort of like a helmet.

And oddly, over the years, I have used the lot except for tweezers and scissors which have never been on the pairs I have used. They were most useful on camping trips and randonnees, and I lost one during a puncture repair on the bike I used for a 1,000km randonnee on Tasmania's West Coast. It had proved so useful to me on camping trips, that I did go back and look for it not so long afterward, but no, zero hope of finding it. So new one was bought, and I still have it, usually in the handlebar bag on each of the bikes.

I put a 27.5" wheel on the front of the Ellsworth today and I liked it!
Kinda figured I would, since the bikepacking rig is set up that way too.

Not wishing to start a helmet debate but I've heard a zillion anecdotes where people claimed that they would have been severely injured or worse if they hadn't had a helmet on. But, and it's a controversial but, how do we know for sure? There are no measurements or recordings to be had after the fact and I'm pretty sure that no one is going to go out and try to repeat their accident without a helmet.
And then there is the helmet itself which increases the size and weight of the head. I know in my construction field, I wasn't required to wear a hard hat until after at least 20 years of work and I was amazed at how any times that I hit my head on bridge beams and such after that. I don't ever remember smacking my head before I started wearing a hard hat. My own anecdote, I know.
Regardless, I wear a helmet religiously. Just always wondered.

Also, as I went down, my hip landed first (massive bruise there!) and I thought, "It's going to be OK" then milliseconds later as I continued to fall "MY HEAD IS GOING TOO FAST" and I although I tensed up and tried to slow my self, I couldn't. Next thing I knew everything was white and sparkly ... and then there were voices around me.

I listen very carefully to the things Machka tells me. She has done an incredible amount of research on the subject, working as she does for the state health department, and being my wife, and seeking out what my medical carers have been able to say..

I meant best, as in, a sort of unique tool you might actually choose that knife for. I switched to Leatherman-type tools a while ago, but they don’t have anything like that reamer, set in the middle of the back, so you can really twist it. Main drawback of those things, though, is that they don’t lock and I have hurt myself as a result.
