Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I did sprint intervals with a friend yesterday. It was pretty awesome. I hit 32-34 once going up a slight incline. It was a beautiful feeling!

One minute on, one minute off? Or otherwise?

My standard are 1 minute on, 3+ minutes off (like nearly coasting). The 1-minute on is usually a mini TT, but much more intense, with the goal to cover as much real-estate as possible.

When I'm really looking to suffer, I start off with a 100% sprint, then work to keep each pedal stroke as strong as it can possibly be at that moment. It hurts. A lot. I've only been able to do this workout about 4 times since I came up with it in July. It turns out that I end up a lot slower than the mini-TT method, but my HR ends up a lot higher. These are good for mental toughness on top of fitness, because it's a case of the brain saying, "Listen legs: f-off and push. Wussies." It's almost an out-of-body experience.

Either way, I get a good recovery and don't touch 1-minute-intervals until the next week.

well I ride 100-120 miles per week and that's all I got time for. I had a cervelo tri bike - aluminum - and it was faster than this bike. same rider, different bike, averaged 2 mph faster on a 40K TT . I won't be getting any faster myself. I 've got enough parts laying around to buy a new frame and build up a race bike. I just like my veloce so much...if I can get this bike easier to ride by spending the money I made selling the tri bike I 'll do it. On the other hand a decent aluminum frame is going to be a better race bike. I think...

Are you talking about the Bianchi Veloce road bike?

There are geometry differences between that and a TT bike that make it easier to ride faster on the TT (which, of course, is the purpose of a TT bike).

Raise the seat, move it forward (maybe even with a "set forward" stem), and use aero bars.

Changing rider position will do quite a bit, IMO.

The Veloce is not uh, veloce enough for you? Sue them for false advertising and buy a new bike!
