Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tandems are pretty friggin fast by nature.

I wonder what 3 accomplished TTists of appropriate sizes could do at LMS on a triple..

US 40k tandem tt record is 44'18" for a speed of 33.6mph

That team could likely do a 10mile TT closer to 34 mph

Put them on a triple, with an equally strong cyclist, and I'm betting you're getting close to 35mph

Sounds fast, but the UCI Hour Records is still, what, 35.02?

Well, put Boardman, Rominger, and Indurain on it, then you'd have something.

Yeah. But still, as drag goes as speed ^ 2, the incremental deltas > 35 mph get less impressive.

I agree that's very impressive, learning how to ride before learning how to talk. That's the way to do it.

True, but power goes up as the cube of speed (zero wind). 33 mph to 35 mph is a 19% increase in power.

I know that. You know that. I meant the pure impressiveness of the number w/o analysis.
