Resources for maintaining your road bike.

Just curious if anyone has any Book titles I can look into that will give me a good idea of the kind of maintenance and repairs I would need to do on my own road bike. Pretty new to cycling and as I put more miles on my bike I would like to avoid the bike shop when I can and handle my own maintenance. What resources would you recommend?

Not sure but interested in responses. Do you think it is worth doing on your own, or is easier/better/less cost upfront to just get it tuned up annually or semi-annually at the local shop? thx
