How about something a tad less likely to instigate litigation?

Treat that kid like a cat. Perform some proactive spritzing.

I worked in a toy store in high school. The things I could tell you. When I worked in a book store the challenge was to keep the minors away from the naughty mags and sex ed books.

I would find an old shoe for a tee and a football. Show them how to kick the ball and that would keep them occupied and out of trouble.

Every generation once they get old trots out that same tired old line yet we're still going and contrary to what old people wistfully tell me they long for, it thankfully isn't like the good old days. Plenty of parents are far more proactive then this example and unfortunately we also have a society that may speak fondly of the discipline of old while hamstringing parents on how they can publicly deal with their kids.

My third grade teacher had a giant cardboard box she made into a jail called the soap box . Misbehaved you sat in your desk inside the box. You could still be involved in the lesson without being disruptive. I was in the box a few times and it sucked so I decided it was best to behave. This was in 1976 and this teacher was cool since she road a motorcycle to school.
