TALL 67cm Semi-Mystery Cicli San Marino Road Bike...with Super Record?

Well what do we have (locally for sale) here? A very peculiar bike with very little info out there to describe it. A presumably sport touring-oriented bike with decent braze-on features and Campagnolo Super Record front and rear derailleurs.

From my research here and online elsewhere, this bike is a product of a long-out-of-business shop named Cicli San Marino. Apparently, bikes with a shop's name/branding were common in Italy some time ago. There was one other San Marino bike I saw (in images) online, and it was a lower-end example. This big black beauty looks to be at least mid-level based on what I can see in the photos, but I want you're thoughts on the matter! So, I will make two lists--List 1 is the frame features that I see that paint it at said mid-level+ and List 2 are the very nice components on it.

List 1 - Frame Features
- Head lugs have a nice shape, don't look like "T-shirt sleeves" = mid-level or upper level (my '87 Prologue's head lugs belie its Prestige tubing and top-level craftsmanship)
- Piggyback (on the downtube) braze-ons put this at latest 1986 (at least if my 're-learning' from browsing Koga-Miyata ads is anything)
- Twin bottle cage boss pairs = mid-level or better
- Scalloped seat cluster opening (for the seat post) = mid-level or better
- Recessed brake nut mounting = mid-level or better
- Unadorned rear brake bridge (no fillet brazing, or styled 'lugs' or 'pedestals') = inconclusive as to how nice a bike--I've seen nice frames with "boring" bridges before
- Dimpled chainstays (both sides) = sport touring or touring intention, and more mid-level
- Fork and rear dropout eyelets = sport touring or touring intention, and not "top-level race bike"
- Long wheelbase = sport touring or touring intention, and not a race bike
- BB shell is not special looking, and it could be more basic = inconclusive as my '74 Paramount's BB shell is pretty basic as well
- Short reach calipers' pads maxed-out in their slots with (confirmed) 27" wheels and tires = standard reach bike, which, in the mid-'80s, says mid-level to me

List 2 - Components (feel free to kindly correct any inaccuracies)
- Campagnolo Super Record rear derailleur
- Campagnolo Super Record front derailleur
- Campagnolo Nuovo Record crankset
- Modolo Professional brake calipers
- Suntour Symmetric shifters
- Unknown brake levers
- Black anodized Cinelli stem?
- Unknown BB
- Campagnolo hubs of some type
- 27" Specialized hubs+rims wheelset with tires (it also has a Specialized chrome chain stay protector--nice)

The bike's size is mislabeled in the ad, but measures 67cm CTT x ~58cm (top tube). Those numbers make me happy. Overall, the bike is proportioned well, not awkwardly like some super huge bikes are made to be. And you know, I bet it rides well or well-enough. As always, tall bikes intrigue me. Any further information provided on this 'brand' would be welcome!

Now for some detail pics!

Casually a SR front derailleur.

BB shell and chainstay detail. Also some half step gearing right there..

The apparently original Campagnolo hubs.

Dropout details aren't particularly special, but it's not stamped. Also, SR rear derailleur, literally hanging out...

A head tube so tall, we put TWO decals on it! Note the "27 x 1 1/4" embossing on the tires. Look a bit small for 1 1/4s if you ask me.

A very practically built and featured rear brake bridge. Nothing wrong here!

The only info I can give is if the frame specs "make you happy" and the $$$ are in the $4-500 range , I would be making it so if'n I was you.

I realize this would be somewhat of a gamble if it doesn't work out well and you overpay, you might be stuck but you will be hard pressed to find something like this to play with.

Tall, short and room for fenders. What's not to like?

151 bcd crankset.
I'm sure there are at least a couple of us here who would happily trade you a 144 if you want to go with a smaller inner chainring.

I have been informed that we will have a man on the ground to investigate this matter further.

I'd like to know too...

Don't let it concern you that 67cm is my preferred size.

Nice looking bike, glad you're finding geometry you like.

The front hub doesn't look like anything Campag to me!

The bike is still for sale @Kobe and @jrg1244 in Portland, OR. Now $375. The numbers remain 67cm x 58cm even if the seller says 66cm for reasons only known to himself. It's still a great platform for a sport touring-oriented road bike. Chain stays look to be around 44.0-44.5cm given the 27" wheels and tires.

Sorry for the delay in response. No ride report from our man on the ground, but the general consensus is that it was decently made and thus could be a bike that rides "better than its station" (a feature I attribute to vintage Fujis). A good thing.

Going to chime in here. I went and looked at this, it is very well made, straight and clean, paint is about a 7 put presents better since its black.

No signs of what the tubing is, 27.2 SP, seller pulled the fork and found no markings at all, no rifling either so....

The biggest anomaly is a very clean seamed BB shell.

It has Speciallized hubs so there's that.

Anybody that wants this, I can help, I suspect this punches above its weight class, I may go test ride it, wasn't prepared when I saw it.

I'm going to venture this rides well and is a pretty good deal if you need this size or want to try one this big.

I wouldn't even hesitate at that price if was local to me.Seems to be a nicely made frame and the components are a good start. You know how hard it is to find anything over 65cm that is obviously custom made.

Why are you having second thoughts?

It does tick a lot of boxes for me. My reasons for not diving headlong into it are not due to the bike itself, primarily. I'm not going to go into them, thus the bike remains fair game to anyone else.
