Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Keeping your smartphone waterproof;how?

I am looking for ways to keep my smartphone away from sweat. How do you carry yours in your jersey pocket? Just ziploc bags? Or any other effective bags/ways?

I have tried to use "search", but unsuccessfully.

Thanks.

Just a ziploc for me. I also keep my ID, cash, and housekey in there.

Ziploc. I don't think there's any better solution.

Phone and wallet in Ziploc. Short of an actual waterproof phone, I can't think of a better solution.

At Masters Nationals they gave out little plastic cases with the USA Cycling logo on it. It uses a ziploc closure, and is basically just a very heavy duty ziplock bag, although a bit smaller.

Works well. Haven't found them for sale though

About 5 years ago my wife gave me some Jersey Bins as a gift. Just kind of an extra heavy duty Ziploc. I know they can be ordered in bulk with logo's, so that might be what Merlin has seen.

Review: The Jersey Bin | Bike Noob

Then about a year later, I ended up with about 80 of these for free:

They are very similar and were some type of conference namebadge lanyard. That's an older phone, but my S3 just barely fits. The top loading isn't quite as slick...but the price was right.

I've got a Blackburn iPhone case that is similar to zip-loc bags but much heavier duty with a double-seal opening. I don't know if it would keep your phone dry under water, but it certainly keeps out sweat. I've had it a couple of years and it is holding up great. I just got a new iPhone 6 and fortunately it still fits the case.

VIP SL RIDE WALLET - Ride Wallets - Bags

Another more durable option compared to zip-lock bags are aLokSak bags. I got mine at a local kayak outfitter. These are designed to be waterproof, but they aren't as durable as the Blackburn case. They sell in packages of 3 for less than $10/

I used to use a ziploc but I like the Blackburn ride wallet that tarwheel linked to above. It's narrower than the Jerseybag size I'd need for my Samsung Galaxy S4. The only downside is that it's not transparent on both sides, so I can use the touchscreen through the translucent side, but the black opaque side means I have to take it out to use the camera.

If you are willing to spend more, the Lifeproof cases are waterproof and shockproof, so you'd be able to just slip the phone directly into your jersey pocket without putting it in any extra bag. They are expensive, but many of my friends feel like they have saved their iPhones from being damaged.

I got one of these on a whim a couple of years ago. Lezyne - Engineered Design - Products - Organizers - Phone Wallet

But, Ziploc bag works fine.

I use a Seidio case. Not only is it waterproof, but I can talk on the phone while riding and there is zero wind noise transmitted through the speaker. It's a good case.

I just use an IPX rated phone, for shock and water resistance. I work hard and play hard, and some of my recreations are water sports.

If it's just sweat and in a jersey, I would use the lightest weight baggie I could find.

I like those, but only problem I have with the hard plastic is that they don't conform well to the body and the edges can be a pain if its not sitting exactly right in your back pocket.

Ziplock works cause its flimsy and feels like its not there.

I don't think I've felt the edges unless I sit in the car with the phone still in a pocket. I wouldn't say it's 'hard plastic' - more like a vinyl. But yes, a Ziplock is less noticeable. I used to go though a lot of Ziplocks, and would still mostly use them if these thicker bags hadn't dropped into my lap. I've given several away to riding buddies...but the newest phones are getting a little too big.

I took a regular Ziploc bag and layered it with duct tape for a little more durability. It looks ghetto, but for almost no cost, I have a "wallet" that has stood up to thousands of miles of riding and hasn't leaked.

A couple of my PI jersey's have sweat proof pockets, but it's on the inside of the jersey. Does fit my iPhone6 though. I don't really use it, I just throw my phone in one of the normal/outer jersey pockets... maybe I should start zip locking it or using the sweat pockets just to keep sweaty moisture away from my phone over the long run. Gotta get it out quick and into a waterproof/resistant saddle bag or whatever if it starts to rain too (not common where I live but happened to me before). That's another option too, just throw it in your saddlebag if you have enough room.
