Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Show Us Your Custom Painted Bikes!!

Do you have a custom painted bike?

Did you go solid or for some flair?

Does your bike have a unique look or is it nostalgic?

Did you have a paint shop paint it or did you do I yourself?

Show it off here!!!

Post photos of your custom painted bike and include how or why you chose the paint scheme.

Show off your paint job!

Looking forward to seeing them

Frank

Technically not paint but rather a custom-mixed, ceramic coating. There is a small LOVE statue decal on the left chain stay.

I spilled some paint on my bike. Does that count?

Well....It is lighter than paint. I would have gone with red, but I was afraid I would get too many speeding tickets just standing still.

I imagine it's darn near friction-less as it glides through the air as well.

It's preferable to droping the hamer on it.

Painted by Southwest Frame Works in Dallas. Candy-apple red = transparent red over opaque gold.

Great thread idea! I'm considering painting one of my bikes in spring while I have it stripped to the bone for a complete overhaul. Hopefully, I can get some ideas here.

My biggest concern is the paint chipping due to being too soft.

Is it brazed steel? Don't paint it, just strip it bare and put on several coats of clear. Industrial chic. With a bright color of decals, that would be dy-no-mite.

Nothing that cool. It's Giant's ALUXX aluminium.

I am in the process of custom painting my bike. Here is what the frame looks like. I am just waiting on my new decals to be made.

I was very tempted to do that with my bike after sanding most of the black paint and rust off of it.

When I respray'd my Olympia I tinted the primer with some topcoat so when the bikes in shade it looks dark red, in sunlight it glows brightly. Pictures don't do it justice.
I used highest quality 2K automotive paints which is highly toxic to breath, safety equipment is a must. My painting setup is much better now and I've sprayed cars also.

Primer. I still use the engine stand for frames, lets me spin it 360 degrees so I cant miss a spot.

No current pic's the bike setup has changed over time.

...nothing says custom like a colourway that wasn't offered by the manufacturer. Paint and decals by CyclArt

...surprisingly, Raleigh offered every model except the Pro in black. This one was murdered out by me. Stickers from Velocals.

I bought the frame on CL for $65. It is a Jamis Aurora frame. A family member works a paint trainer for PPG. He and his buddy worked their magic on this. The silver is bare metal that is clear coated a bunch of times. Light green fade to black with metal flake. It really pops in the sun!
