In August we moved into a very secluded rural area that is just covered with hills. This should make for some interesting snow riding. Oh and watching for bears, wolves and cougars. Coyotes? Pffft. Deer season is wnding down and it’s time to get my ugly Goose out and clip the lights on it. Life is one big adventure!

I was wondering what had happened to you; hadn't seen you on Strava in a while.
Enjoy life out in the sticks. We lived out in the hills in the middle of nowhere for several years and I loved it. It got to be a pain with adolescent kids who insisted on seeing their friends though.
Looking forward to some riding-in-the-snow pics.

I am about 3mi away from any kind of cell service so that forces me to ride “broken” segments. Anyways, loving this little paradise on Larks Lake. Dreaming of hillclimbs in the hot sun.

Was not aware of Larks Lake, sounds pretty neat. Can I ask what prompted you to move there?

My wife and I love the Upper Peninsula. We vacation there every year. We would love to trip there in the winter once my wife retires. We might even consider moving there, but we would be too far from our grandkids in Ohio.

Started packing my street crampons when I go over the Coast Range , to my Portland VA Med appointments..

Rest area on the crest of US 26 caught me once, with a thin layer of black ice covering the parking lot..


have studded bike tires , they work well, just when the sidewalk is ice covered, not being on the bike is slippery,
so even then those spiky shoe add-ons will be useful..

I was brought in as pastor of a vibrant church just north of Harbor Springs. When moving closer to the church we were offered a beautiful home on Larks Lake. It’s the area I grew up in. We are definately out in the boonies with a ton of beauty and peace. The UP is where us folks go when everybody down there comes here for vacation.

Winter is here in the South too.

We finally plunged below 40° and there might even be a few flakes in the northern mountains this Friday!

It can be really brutal here and I can't wait for the eight or nine weeks of winter to be over. Seems like forever until it hits 60° and the daffodils start blooming again in February. Then it will all be a terrible memory.

We're still waiting for winter to start. Maybe in late January or February, we may get a few cold days. And for us, cold is in the 30s.

Going down into the low40's tonight and possible freeze tomorrow night. Can't wait for winter to be over here in N. Florida. Would like for the wind to stop blowing so hard every day also. But, it is wonderful to be able to ride every day it does not rain. Just have to put more clothes on.

We have around 5-6" right now. Messed up my Saturday ride plans. Supposed to drop down to 16-19° tomorrow night so all this stuff is gonna freeze. May mess up my Sunday after church ride too.

Low 40s here all day. That's about as winter as it gets most years. We haven't had this much cold in December in a few years.

Had a couple of inches overnight, barely shovelable. We are supposed to have more Monday. Did prompt me to do an oil change on the snowblower.. though doing it back in October might have been more comfortable.

It's been snowing all day here in NYC. First snow of the year. Expected accumulation is up to three inches.

We moved up here late August. Gorgeous and hilly hilly hilly. The only flat ride I have is the 8 mile lap around Larks Lake. Yes, Lake Effect hits hard sometimes. In 3 nights we ended up with about 16”. But we expected that. The solitude on the rides is incredible, something that did surprise me. Not sure about icefishing just yet but I know we have some big bass just off the front yard.

That's going to be for today and possibly tomorrow. If the forecasters are right, we should be back in the 70s on Tuesday. We had rain for 2 days leading into this temperature drop so I guess I can live with 4 days of winter. However, I'm sure we'll have at least one more 2-3 day cold snap before April comes around.

Don't hate us.....it's going to be 85 around Socal this week. And you know how deadly these dry conditions have been; we live relatively close to the fire areas. Send us some rain.....quickly!

Nonetheless, I can't remember a December this warm. Our Saturday shop rides are short sleeve jerseys affairs and sunscreen. Really weird....
