Great, I'm missing the blizzard. Not only am I missing it, I have to drive in another blizzard instead. And it's not even that good of a blizzard. Crap!

I spent all this money on winter clothes and tires. I'm still waiting for the winter to start. A blizzard finally comes along, and I can't ride in it due to an injury.

I'm unfortunately at work today (ordinarily I don't work weekends). I rode to work this morning, so I'll be riding home at the end of the day. So. . . if the blizzard has started by the time I'm done working, I'll be riding in it.

If the predicted six to twelve inches fall and accumulate, I doubt that I'll ride to work Monday.

The last time it snowed the trail I use to commute was snow/iced over for 3 weeks. I couldn't commute with my 23c tires / road bike. I do have a schwin 27" 12-spd steel junker with wide knobbies. I think I'll try it out if the snow ever materializes in No. VA area.

"Lucky" for you, the subways should be fine. They were the only part of the City that worked in the aftermath of the blizzard of '96 (did I get the year right?).

LMAO, i am writing this from a friend's house in the city since i have no way home, my bike is buried, since its locked up outside, my buddy here doesn't have room in his appartment, the snow is still falling, and the roads aren't as well plowed as i though.

Yesterday I finished up work around 7ish, when it just started to accumulate, but being a saturday, some friend's and i thought the night can't end now so we went out, It wasn't until 1am when the thought of going home hit me and by then there was already a few inches. I tried heading home but the wind blowing the snow was the first problem i encountered, for it impaired my sight, and no matter how often i wiped my glasses, it still collected to the point where i might as well ridden with my eyes close.
the chill hit me afterwards, especially my feet, and mind you i only had 6 or 7 blocks under my belt at that point. Lastly, some moron in some SUV roared by at speeds one normally traveled at during a nice day, yet there was 4 or 5 inches of troublesome snow on the ground already, and that never seamed to phase him, so i really don't need to share the road with some a-hole like that to make this dangerous trek even more dangerous. I realize how ridulously challenging and dangerous this ride was so i decided to back off, and take him up on his offer where he let me crash on his couch. I woke up around 9:40 looked out the window and laughed casue there is no way in hell i can even make it 3 feet on my bike in this snow, and i can't imagine walking 14 blocks to get on the Qtrain back to brooklyn and walk another twenty-something blocks from that station home.

So good luck to those who must travel in this craziness , and enjoy the day off to those who have no intentions to traverse this blizzard snow.

I saw two people riding bikes here in Soho when I got off the train to work. One of them was on a hybrid with really thin tires. How I envied him...

24 inches is nothing! It has to be at least 36 inches before I'll even consider staying in due to snow. Of course after the first two inches I'm actually not riding the bike, but walking with it because it makes me feel comfortable, but that's neither here nor there, right?


Seriously though, the recently plowed streets only have a few inches of hardpacked snow on them which is possible to ride through, even if it would be very difficult. If I weren't working I'd give it a try just for kicks.

went for a ride, and just go back. Must say: most fun i had in a while. Luckily, llike myself, most others stayed indoors and stayed home from work, so the roads were rather empty and were perfect for a joy ride without having to worry about some guy behind me beeping his damn horning cause im going so slow. Slid out a couple of times mostly due to the ice that lies under the snow, but it really was an awesome expierence that doesn't come around all that often.

BTW, Im working on a way to make some kind of video, otherwise ill just resort to some pics for those of you to girly to go ride yourself

I live in NJ just a town over from Asbury Park. We didn't get hit too bad here, but the roads where still a bit nasty. I went out for a ride to the grocery store. Got cabin fever and had to get out of the house.

Good time. Only slipped out once. Every-time a car passed w/ someone in the passenger seat i got a funny look. Oh Well, Silly Cagers.

Well I'm definitely not riding to school tomorrow. I usually ride on the Hudson river bike path, but im sure its not cleared (cars get priority ). I would ride in the street, but I just got my new raleigh supercourse, and I dont want salt to get on it, or worse, to get into an accident. This is a big bummer, since I only started riding a week and a half ago and only had 90 miles under my belt. Hopefully it will all melt soon!
