I just wish someone would make silver (not just grey) brake/shift cable housing!
That would look sooo cool!

Ah, yes, very pretty!
But I was thinking more along the lines of silver-coloured plastic...

Anyone else got some LHT pics? I'm thinking of getting one and building it up with a mtn bike bar for a town commuter ... would love to see some pics to help me as I save up.

Be still my heart! Great thread!
I had a thread on my new LHT a little while back:
Well here she is, finally. Not quite done, needs fenders.
https://community.webshots.com/album/82565251NmJWKQ
This is the itty bitty 42cm size model.
I have ridden it around town a few times. It has hauled some recyleables and delivered beer (to the LBS who ordered it for me), so it's good to go.
I think it looks quite proportional with the 26" wheels.
It's quicker and more nimble than it looks! It's a very nice ride. The fit is great too. I wanted the steer tube left long for a while, but I think I like it as it is.
Lemme think what it has on it:
105 crankset 52-42-24, 165mm crank arms
105 fr der
LX rear der
XT 12-34 cassette
Aero levers
DA dt shifters
Deore hubs, not sure what the wheels are, but would be upgraded for a big tour.
Conti Contact tires
Bontrager handlebars and stem
Extra brake levers (not sure of exact name for them)
Terry Lib Ti Race saddle
Jandd Expedition rear rack
Blackburn Mtn front rack (I'm going to see how it works out)
Planet Bike Freddy Fenders
I think I'm going to swap the cranks and r/der to an XT set up from another bike I have.
The only thing that is wierd is the placement of the water bottle cages. They are at mid-tube and a large water bottle won't fit in the seat tube bottle cage. I put a side entry cage on it. My Pacer does not have this problem.

When you actuate the 'cross levers, it has the effect of shortening the cable housing, which works the brakes. Very nifty, and not a hindrance to the regular levers at all.

My BF got a Crosscheck when I got my LHT. He also went from the 520 to the CC. He thinks the CC fits him better, and he thinks the CC is a bit quicker than the 520.
That all said, the 520 is still a fine bike. It all depends on what you like.

It's worth the wait!
At our favorite LBS, my BF wanted to get a Crosscheck, but QBP was out of them. So the LBS had QBP (Surly) email them as soon as they had one in the size/color BF wanted. LBS put in the order as soon as the only 54cm green one came up.

Speaking of which, now that green is gone, what do you think the better color will be. Seems like blue from what I have seen, but then the surly green looked different in just about every picture I saw of it, so how to tell.
What Murray said about his SUrly would have been true for my touring bike also. There is very little extra added to a frame to make it into a touring bike (of course they may choose heavier tubing or something that makes a difference on that score). So you get the longer wheel base which makes a big difference at negligible adds to the weight. Best deal going.

I can't wait for mine either! I recently bought the components I am going to build it with, and the anticipation is killing me. Is it too much to hope that the new batch will be ready earlier than expected?

Is anyone riding with cross levers (in-line brakes) and a handlebar bag? My LBS is says it's not a good idea, but if I angle the brakes properly, they'll fit fine. (This question doesn't deserve its own thread and I saw them mentioned above).

Here is my post from several months ago. The LHT has been a great bike. The only changes I have made on the bike are a different seatpost to allow more setback for my Brooks saddle.
