Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

List of tubeless ready rims?

I am aware of the Pacenti SL23 and SL25 (and use the SL23) but could you guys add to this list of tubeless-ready rims? I'm considering selling my new Roval Rapide CLX 40 Disc rims and will likely build something around the DT240 Centerlock Disc hubs. The SL23 is decent (my one could use a bit better welding at the joint) but I'd like to at least know what else is out there. Thanks for the help.

There are a ton now.

Velocity A23, Quill (new)
Kinlin anything ending in a "T"

Also the Pacenti SL25 is a disc specific rim. Are you looking for disc or rim brake?>

Ah, I was wondering how the SL25 was different. Yes, I am looking for a disc-specific rim. Thanks for the info, Psimet. I'll look again for NoTubes but did not see anything when I glanced a while ago. Will check out the ones you mention though.

I didn't think Shimano made disc wheels. I didn't think their rims were available separately either. So far the SL25 looks better than the Velocity rims. I'm looking into HED and NoTubes rims too. When I looked yesterday, I could not figure out if they met all my needs...~23mm...outside width, disc-specific, tubeless, 28h, black ano. At 170-175 lbs currently, I think I'll go with 28x28 for a disc build, as opposed to 24x28 which is my rim-brake setup. I did a 32x32 build once with Dura Ace, CX Rays, and HEDs, and felt it was too much in the sense that the wheels felt harsh. Soon after I switched to 24x28 with SL23s and the wheels feel much better so 24x28 and 28x28 is it for me. I used to be 185 lbs but am knocking on 170 lbs now. That still isn't light but I'm hitting 6' and relatively broad shoulders.

I sold my Roval Rapides today so it is time to finalize the wheel build.

Looks like with alloy rims and for disc tubeless-ready, the Pacenti SL25 and the (newish) Easton R90 SL are the top two. Carbon- NOC Composites looks good. With the absence of Alchemy, it will likely be DT 240s again. I like Kings as well but I have 240s already and they roll with a bit less drag, I assume. Some people have mentioned I9 but I am not sure about the quality of their bearings over time.

I am not sure if I will do a 24x28 or a 28x28. Any thoughts on this or any of the above comments? I'm 170 lbs now. Lost of climbing and lots of descending...that is how the terrain is here. Not a weight weenie but light wheels are good, as long as they are durable and can descend fast.

The Velocity Aileron is a really nice tubeless ready option as well. I have had great luck with it in the past.

Oh yeah, I did research that one too, and liked it. Good specs too. Not sure why I forgot about it this evening....prob my euphoric state post a fat bike ride in a new state park. I'll narrow it down soon, hopefully based on feedback here because I see no pros/cons myself.

One more question on hubs- I noticed that White Industries has a newer hub called the CLD (Center Lock Disc). It is slightly less expensive than the DT240. Besides a price advantage is there any other reason to go with that one? I like the different colors but was wondering if they used better bearings or had a flange spacing advantage or any other advantage.
