Those motorbike photos are trick photography.

Barrel distortion in the lens makes it look like they are leaned over more than they are. Photographers have been using the technique since back in the day.

Even with their trickery it is still neat and very far from upright.

Ca ca and poo poo sir.

I believe your photo is a modern photo of an old bike and a rider in a vintage costume, not an actual vintage photo.

I'll inject some facts about motorcycles into the conversation. The FACT is that GP bikes lean up to 64 degrees from vertical. That's TWENTY SIX degrees from the deck ladies. Those aren't random guesses. GP racing is a multi gazzilion dollar, 217 MPH sport. Nothing is a guess. Those numbers come from the gyroscopes on the bikes.

Here is a display that Yamaha put on at some GPs to show fans what they were hungry for. It actually looks LESS extreme than it really is. When a rider is going fast the suspension is squatted down a few MORE inches compared to these static poses.

This quick video is very informative.

"Pretty Gnar" is an understatement. By a HUGE amount.

Due to some odd combinations of rise, or drop, speed, and camber, at certain corners, the riders will drift the bikes sideways on entry to gain an advantageous exit trajectory, allowing them to get on the throttle earlier and harder. They are steering with their REAR wheels.

Notice his rear wheel is not in line with his front wheel? Notice the hundreds of blackies left on the track surface from other riders doing the same? Look how long those blackies are. That tells us how long and hard they are on the throttle, just hammering it all the way out.

These aint little dirt bikes. 260 hp on asphalt. Drifting at 140 mph

I've have never drifted a 260 hp GP bike on $1,500.00 tires at 140mph. Nope. Maybe if I go to heaven I'll get a chance. Very doubtful though. I can say, however, that sliding both tires of a Superbike through a corner at 120 mph does not feel "Gnarly". A better description would be to call it a F'n spiritual event. And the first time you do it, the ONLY thing you can think about is doing it again. It's worse than blow.

There is no trickery in those photographs. It looks exactly the same when you stand track side or when you are three feet behind a rider on track.

Today I learned that this is now a motorcycle thread...

Seriously, today I worked on my bike. Rode my cx bike to the bike shop to do some cable adjustments. Left it there and rode my fat bike home now that the brakes work after leaving it for warranty work. Tomorrow is global fat bike day and there is a big event here so finally get to ride it in weather other than snow. Made cockpit adjustments and cleaned it up. Also converted my Specialized Carve SL SS back to mtb status so my friend could ride it tomorrow with us. His fat bike is down for the count with a massively fubar'd rear axle. Bike looks sick, until I realized that I cannot find the handlebar that came with it. So it is full mtb status, 2.3" tire up front, 2.1 out back.......and a Cinelli Pepper riser bar that is a bit on the narrow side. Should be uh, interesting to say the least when he goes to ride it. He hasn't really ridden a traditional mountain bike, just his super wide bar fat bike.

230 riders today for the fat bike ride. It was a pretty nice day that started off rather cold but quickly warmed up. Just about everyone out there was overdressed. Few people riding regular mountain bikes but 90% were on mid fat or fatter. It was a nice event. Free lunch catered in and people brought stuff. Nice raffle with prizes like a free tune up at local shops, paid entries into races and they even gave away a Surly Big Dummy frame and all of the bags that go with it. If you are a fat bike rider, you know about global fat bike day.

I saw the Disaster Artist...so good! You should see The Room if you haven't first and then go see it. James Franco does an excellent Tommy Wiseau and Dave Franco does a great Greg Sestero. The movie will tear you apart ; )
