Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It amazes me that people have become so touch sensitive, whoever or whatever meant nothing by it, walk it off.

First, you don't have to be a homophobe to not want to be touched by another person.
Second, it's a violation of your space/body. Anyone saying to just ignore it should say the same to their wife/girl/significant other when someone cops a feel.

Congratulations. Now you know how most women feel. All you need is a little heckling in the street, and a furtive grope on the subway and you'll have the full 'Being in Public while Female' experience.

I said, "Good, thanks."

On a side note, the guy was in full full road gear, may of been pro? Not sure.

I see TDF riders pat eachother all the time, so maybe it's no big deal.
Does no one know how to read punctuation anymore? Look closer at the quotation marks.

The OP was not molested, just talked to weirdly.

I have had it before when being passed by a peloton. It's a gesture to let you know he is there.

I'm pretty sure someone touching me to let me know they are there will surprise me a hell of a lot more than a word would. I don't buy this at all. If someone can touch you, they are beside you, you know already they are there.

Uh-oh! Yeah, check for the post-it. In road cycling parlance you might be his ***** now. But to keep it on the down-low, they use the term "domestique".

I have had a lot of people lose their line when you make voice contact. I can easily touch another rider before he can see me. Not all of them keep a good lookout.

Maybe the OP "jumped" when he heard the voice next to him saying hello, lost his line and drifted over to the other guy, who fended him off with a gentle push.

Or maybe the OP turned to look at the guy, and drifted over into him.

You were probably navigating like an old lady or a squirrel and he was making sure you didn't vere into him as he passed you. Very courteous and safety conscious.

I haven't been "patted" in a peloton, but I've gotten the "push" before. You can see it in the TdF and other tour races, where a trailing rider, often on a downhill, is starting to barely overtake the rider in front. The rear rider might want to preserve his energy in a draft, or knows the other rider is stronger, or is just helping out a team-mate, and will ride up alongside and push the rider in front so they stay there.

It's just not a help-the-team-mate thing, either, as most of pushes I've seen are from riders on different teams.

This has happened to me about 3 times on fast group rides, twice of which I was bridging a gap with another rider, and on a short downhill, he wanted to keep me in front since I was slightly stronger. Didn't mind at all.

Don't worry about me, dear, I don't feel the need to satisfy my carnal desires by going out in public to be randomly assaulted. But it was kind of you to offer.

OP was probably drifting over into the other guy, anyways.

This is funny, I feel like all of us who wear skintight biking clothes get objectified at one point or another, but not by our own kind. The guy was definitely just making sure you didn't bowl into him or something.

To the OP:

Did he try to wedge his thumb up your crack? Perfectly normal, perfectly healthy.

If you really want to discover his intentions you might want to start with C-list missed connections.

Enjoy
