Civia Belt Drive Bryant - Fender and Changing a (rear) flat

I am considering putting fenders on my Civia Bryant. It has occurred to me that in order to change a flat rear tire I will need to slide the rear wheel back about an or so - the Bryant has horizontal dropouts.

Does anyone have experience with this? Do I need to mount the fender differently? Is there generally enough clearance if I deflate the tire 1st? Is this a non-issue?

Mike

IIRC the dropouts on the Bryant are pretty short, so you'd only need 1" or so of space. I'd mount the fenders with a touch more clearance at the back (the stays should have enough length, depending on their length and the eyelet location). To remove the wheel, you'll probably need to move the wheel forward slightly (release tension on the belt), slip the belt off of the chainring (to the inside), then pull the wheel back and let it drop. Before doing any of this, ensure you've removed the Alfine shift cable, which takes all of 2 seconds when using an old spoke cut to 6" or a 2mm hex.

Could also use SKS fenders and use the safety releases on the rear struts. Then you can just pop the rear struts off to give yourself some extra room.

I can't use the SKS fenders - the disc brake on the front interferes with the stays.

I've used SKS fendes on a disc fork, using one of the Planet Bike (or any) spacers.

Never had a prob using longer bolts, spacers, and a little bending of the strut to mount fenders with discs. Also note your fork has lowrider mounts;you can always attach the stays to them and trim off the excess.

As far as the fender fitting issue, I just returned the SKS and bought some that fit without duct tape and bailing wire. I say that with respect, as the one time owner of 1956 (pre-unit) Triumph 650 that was in fact held together with duct tape, bailing wire, and hose clamps.
